I'm writing this review for the dive school. I have not stayed in the hostel. For some reason the dive shop does not have a separate page.
TLDR: Would recommend this dive shop.
As an experienced diver, I was just looking for a dive shop that could take me to the blue hole for diving. Hence, I did not take any courses.
I visited many dive shops to inquire about their offering, and finally I decided to go with Deep Blue Divers. Ahmad was friendly but also very straightforward with the information and pricing, something I appreciate. They also had the best pricing of the shops I have been to.
Equipment: I rented a BCD, wetsuit, booties and fins. All equipment was in very good condition. The Wetsuit and BCD looked fairly new. The BCD still had all clips, quick releases and velcros - I can say after diving all around the world that I do not take that for granted.
Safety and experience: Mo was my guide during the dive. He has been instructing in Dahab or 7 years and was very familiar with the local diving. He made sure to look out for my safety while entering and exiting the water, which could be a bit tricky with the rocks and all the people around. Mo is a good and calm instructor, which is essential for a relaxing dive. He is a friendly dude, speaks very good English and definitely a competent diver.
Food near blue hole: This is the same for all dive shops but worth mentioning. When you dive in the blue hole, you may want to sit down in the shade between dives. There are multiple restaurants there offering drinks and food. The prices are a bit steeper than what you would find in Dahab, but still acceptable. Food went from 150EGP to 350EGP. Fruit juice was 150EGP and coffee 100EGP. The place we went to had a minimum charge of 200EGP over the whole time you spend there. For budget backpackers it's nice to know this up front. Ahmad informed be about this well upfront, which I was thankful for.
Overall: The whole process was smooth and efficient. Good experience....

They only provide sheets for the mattress and the pillow, but don't provide one for the blanket. After asking for a second bedsheet to use instead of the dirty blanket, they waived the additional charge of 5 EGP. Unfortunately the hostel doesn't include any services, such as toilet paper or a decent equipped kitchen. The WiFi is barely working and cleanliness could be improved dramatically. Fine, the owners seemed to be nice so I disregarded these issues and didn't let this ruin my stay. I booked diving with them, which was quite nice. Their equipment is in a good condition and my guide took some photos with his camera and sent them to me free of charge. Good service you don't really see in Egypt. I was confused by them not expecting a charge for the photos. However when checking prices with other dive companies, I painfully found out that I indirectly did pay for these services. After negotiating the price for a night dive with them, which usually costs around 35€, they offered me a discount of ~2,50€ on one night of accomodation. When checking night dive prices with a good-reviewed dive company nextdoor, it was only ~20€, so of course I went with that company. The only reason why I extended my stay was because of other guests. There was such a good vibe, which I really liked. The hostels rooftop definietly contributes to these good vibes.
After spending around 100€ for diving and accomodation, the hostel REALLY charged me ~1€ for snorkel and mask rental. Of course I cannot complain about having to pay for a service which I use. But this rediculous charge definetly did not make me feel welcome and appreciated. It felt like they try to squeeze every...
Read moreWow you can’t even reply properly, in fact your reply alone speaks volumes about the quality you give, but since you asked, here are my problems: 1-you were extremely rude and unwelcoming, I had a terrible room with a bathroom that doesn’t flush, the roof where my room was had BROKEN GLASS on the floor, there was no AC and the fan wasn’t working. The room was filled with insects and no one came for maintenance. Not only were my problems completely ignored, I got constantly disrespected by the owner.
2-your lovely owner took advantage of the foreign guests and let them do maintenance work. I saw a woman staying there paint the walls!! Could you guys get any lower standards?? Actually that should be ILLEGAL. When I told her that’s completely unnecessary and it’s not her job to work I was attacked by the lovely owner and told it was none of my business. Clearly I was standing in his way to hook up with foreign guests and try to coerce them into doing HIS job. I could see through his intentions and he didn’t like it.
3-I came back after leaving to fetch things I forgot in the room, the owner was lovely enough to yell at me and tell me that i shouldn’t come back, as if I was eager to see him or this disgusting insect infested place ever again. Is this how you treat Egyptian women? Or are you just ignorant and unprofessional? I’m assuming both.
I look forward to sharing my disgusting experience with as many people as I can. Thank you for showing me what a terrible service and disrespectful staff look like.
The place is cheap sure, but the standards and quality are even cheaper, there are lots of other great places in Dahab, please please save yourself the trouble and...
