Hotel La Guitarra — Hotel in Departamento de La Libertad

When I was searching for a place to stay in El Tunco, this was the hotel that I immediately had my eyes set on. However, I had to do a lot of shopping around to get a good budget price, since I am staying here for 26 nights. The time and patience paid off and I got my reservation made for here. The hotel, bar and nightclub is right on the beach, and it is in the heart of the el tunco nightlife. Do not come here if you want a quiet place to stay because the nightclub and bars start playing late in the day until the late-night hours. This place has a hard rock and tropical culture, which you have to take in if you come here in person. The rooms are very cozy, clean and comfortable, have a private bathroom, a patio with chairs and a hammock and is in a very safe area. The staff are very friendly, work hard, and provide good customer service, although they do not speak English, I speak Spanish anyway, but this entire area does not speak hardly any English. The breakfast is awesome, and you can add to your basic breakfast, ham, bacon, extra items for 75 cents each, The bar is really nice because you can access it from the hotel area, and it is right on the beach. The sunsets here and the ocean views are breath taking. There is a nice pool, ping pong table, a table pool game and a kitchen available, as well. There are a lot of things to do and see near here. I have been all over the world and this has to be one of the best overall stays for the price in my lifetime. I plan on returning next year, since it was such a great experience! I was really impressed with the El Salvadorean people because they were all so friendly, honest, proud, hardworking and very easy going. You also do not have street vendors trying to follow you around and bother you to buy their products, which was a nice...

Like any other hotels there are pros & cons.|Pros: La guitarra hotel located at the center of the El Tunco. The hotel is surrounding by bars, restaurants, convenience stores, surf & travel business and 5 minutes from the beach!|Cons: The kitchen opens at 7 am and the breakfast is serving at 7:30. So if you heading to the beach to surf, don’t expect to have a breakfast before 7:30.|No air conditioning: We went in August and it was humid and hot. At night would be unbearable to sleep. It takes a while to fall sleep and wake up at night several time’s because of the humidity. A fan doesn’t help at all.|Noise: The location where the hotel is located, you can hear the live music playing outside in the restaurant or bar. Even with an ear plugs, still hear the beats and drums.|Front desk: the lady isn’t that nice and friendly. But the ladies at the cafeteria & cleaning are friendly and helpful. Always with a big smile. :)|Swimming pool: the first day we arrived, the pool ready to use. But the next day it was dirty and dark. When we left after 3 days there’s , the pool still dirty. |Rooms: The room I stayed had a horrible smell! Mold? I believed it was unoccupied for months! Please open the windows to ventilate some fresh air! Staying there for 3 nights, the smells still impregnated in the room. I am not sure how i survived!!! If it’s mold anyone can get sick. |The sheets were also smell mold or else. |Well, I would not recommend this place if you have a family or anyone. ||I hope my review will help those who are looking for a decent and affordable place...

I loved my oceanview room. Paid direct with the reception. It's 55 USD per night with breakfast and 50 without. There are cheaper rooms with no views either with fan or AC. My room with a balcony facing the beach was stunning. I woke up to the sound of waves every morning and it's wonderful.

That said, the room is no-frills. No hairdryer, no hot water, no TV, no drinking water, no cups, no fridge, no wardrobe, and only one type of soap for shower. Also no daily house keeping (I think they clean upon request).

Water dripping from the aircon was also really bad at the beginning, like it was almost going to flood the floor, but it eventually stopped. Thankfully, the aircon is quiet.

I usually don't like simple rooms like this but for some reason maybe mine had good Feng Shui and I stuck with it for 3 nights. The mattress was decent too.

Breakfast is delicious and a good deal. I had a situation with laundry and the receptionist was willing to help. Grateful🙏🏼

The bar is right underneath the Oceanview rooms so it might be loud on Friday and Saturday nights, otherwise they are closed during the week so noise is not an issue.

The location is super convenient. Close to everything in Tunco.

I totally understand why some people don't like this place, but I think if you get the right room you'll have...
