I accompanied my wife to Amiens who was sent there by her company for training. While my wife was in training, I spent my days using the local gym I joined to pass time. Of course, I spent time walking around the nice town to enjoy the area; however, there were times when I was simply in the room. Because my wife and I had not immediately figure out the use of our cell phones in France, on one occasion, my wife called the front desk and they refused to transfer her to the room which infuriated me. The room did NOT include air conditioning, and cable service did not include channels like CNN, MSNBC, FOX despite the representations of the hotel. If I recall correctly, USA Network (which I do NOT watch) was the only English Channel.
While it is true that on one (1) occasion, I passed on house cleaning to sleep in, this was not so each of the three (3) days we stood there. House cleaning was allowed in to clean, but they limited this effort to simply replacing the bathroom towels. House cleaning did NOT change to bedding (e.g., pillow covers, bed sheets); instead, the pillow covers inside out. I realized that sheets were not changed because a stain on the bed sheet I realized the night before was still present. While it is true that continental breakfast was $15.00, the alternative was something around $20–22, which I viewed as unnecessarily expensive when I considered that my wife and I stood at St. James Albany SPA Hotel in Paris – across the street from the Louvre Museum – the #1 museum in the world, and a full buffet breakfast was $17.00, and the hotel was GREAT! Hotel Marotte did not include an iron and an ironing board. The hotel provided an iron on request, but they did not provide an ironing board; this too was strange since it left us to have to iron on the bed and/or the floor – very disappointing.
Trust me, I am not a complainer, I am simply providing the objective facts. Where in doubt, call the hotel and ask about the items raised to make your own assessment.
Initially, I was taken by what appeared to be a quaint place (which it is), but honestly, it felt more like an old library.
I find that management reviewed my comments and found it necessary to comment. While it is certainly within their right to comment, I found the tone of their comments very surprising and lacking in humility. I would suggest that something like, “Thank you for bring these matters to our attention and providing us the opportunity to correct them” would have gone a long way to me and my wife who may have to return to Amiens, including the general public. I found their response for Zack also strange despite the fact they may have a point. In America, customer service means not only meeting customer expectations, but exceeding them without having to defend ourselves each time we are criticized.
I would not recommend this place for...
Read moreWe arrived at the hotel on Monday evening at 5pm and were told the bar was closed and so was the restaurant. I was traveling with another adult and two small children so this was far from ideal. We ask for a drink and they refused to get us one. We then had to take the children out for dinner and came back at 8.30pm and not one person was in the hotel. Its was a total disgrace. The rooms are less than average, and you would expect far better for the price. This is just complete lie rating it as a 5 star hotel. It would be lucky to have 3 stars. We had breakfast in the morning, but it was so poor, just one croissant, a sliced baguette and a tea, was 20 Euros per person. A complete rip off. On arrival they took my car keys and said they would park my car over night. When I returned the next morning Estelle came up to me a said that the driver had crashed the car. My front bumper was hanging off and there was a two inch whole in the side of the tyre. She told me the driver had hit a metal object in the road. She informed me that the hotel would pay, so I returned to the UK the next day cutting our holiday short as we could not drive the car for long as we only had a spare tyre and no garage had a tyre in stock. I have since emailed her and called her numerous times over the past week, which has only once replied now saying that a stone did the damage, changing her mind for a piece of metal in the road? There is over £3000 worth of damage to the car, and this was a total lie. Today I called and spoke to her, she told me to hang on and then dropped the phone, to which I waited over 10 minutes and no one came back. This lady is not what she appears to be. She is rude and untrustworthy. I am now taking legal action against the her and hotel. There are much better places to stay in Amiens, that have nicer rooms and honest people. Don't let these people ruin your holiday like they did my families.. .The only thing they did was give us a free breakfast to apologise for what they had done, but now she is...
Read moreWe are seniors and had room 37 (second floor American) for 4 nights in mid July in the adjacent building (which also houses the spa). Recommended by our host, it was the perfect room for us. Spacious, always quiet, comfortable chairs for a sitting area in the bedroom and another comfy chair in the spacious sunny bathroom. Two great french windows in the bedroom and a matching one in the bath make for lots of great natural light and fresh air. The bath has a massive sparkling modern tub and a separate walk-in shower (good water pressure in the rain shower btw). A wall behind the head of the bed separates the dressing area and bathroom from the bed and TV area for lots privacy. Other reviewers note the cleanliness of the hotel. We can confirm that. Spotless. A pleasant view from all windows over the courtyard of the restaurant area below. The restaurant was only open for breakfast during our stay so the courtyard was always quiet. We even had a light picnic at one of the tables one evening. Very convenient. Good air conditioning. Modern roomy, elevator. Easy walk from the SNCF gare and the cathedral and all things in central Amiens. We highly recommend Hotel Marotte! My wife was very pleased that my trip planning included this...
