The apartments are recently built and still in good clean condition, we paid extra for the private underground car park, as we were told by reception that the outside car park was unofficial and the police could issue tickets, i saw no signage, so dont think this is really true, so i feel conned out of €12 euros a day. The car park does not have enough capacity for the whole building and the spaces are ridiculously small if you drive an SUV, the entrance is also really tight and has been hit by someone already. We stayed in room 709 on the 7th floor, i dont know if the ventilation system is supposed to provide cool air but we could only get heat from it, our room was south facing and was unbearably hot, the twin room has no window and the bedroom window was locked shut with no key, we had to sleep with the balcony doors open, but there was quite a lot of traffic noise. There was also no extractor fans in the bathroom or toilet but just a vent that hardly seemed to do anything. The shower was nice and powerful, but unsure if there was a leak or a badly fitted door as we always ended up with a small puddle after using the shower. There is a built in hairdryer which is useful. As a family of four we were only given one toilet roll, no hand soap and you have to make up your own beds and take your rubbish downstairs when checking out. In the kitchen area there is a hob, dishwasher, fridge, plenty of utensils, crockery and cutlery, but no oven, just a small combination microwave with grill. We had a family apartment with bunk beds but these were directly by the entrance foor, fortunately our floor was quiet but i think children would be disturbed if the floor was full. Positives are lots of usb points everywhere for mobile charging, nicely decorated and clean, comfy beds and adequate kitchen if you use the self catering facilities, lovely views from high floors. Cons, badly designed, undersized, overpriced insecure car park, no hand soap, paying extra for towels, making up your own beds, no air con Good size tv but no English channels available.
The apartments as a concept are a good idea for a budget stay, but design could have been...
Read moreThis is at best a NO star hotel to be avoided.
Screeching fire alarms and emergency evacuation in the night with no information. No reassurance from the hotel. Nothing at all after standing out in the cold for nearly half an hour. We did not sleep well, worrying about another alarm. The next day when asked, we heard it had something to do with a guest cooking (which is a feature allowed in the rooms!!!). And No Big Deal! What kind of hotel would do that? And apparently as we heard from other guests, it had happened before. So this kind of lack of safety for guests seems normal at Evancy. How could anyone feel safe in a hotel like that? Not us.
Then there are the EXTRA FEES. They do not tell you before you book or even after check in that if you do not empty your own garbage there will be an extra fee of nearly 20€. AND they do not tell you that if you don’t wash your own dishes, they will charge an extra fee again!!! AND no mention that if you want clean sheets, ANOTHER extra fee.
Finally the parking garage ROOF leaks like a sieve during rain. Right onto the top of the cars in some parking spots!!! No mention of that, no warning to not park in certain spots. For 13€ a day??? When we were there the parking garage flooded through the roof structure onto cars. Is a parking garage that leaks like that even safe?
I think that IF this hotel honestly stated the above being all included in a stay there, I cannot imagine anyone willing to take the risk. I certainly and another couple we know who stayed there, would never have booked a stay at this hotel.
A hotel to be avoided at the very least until they resolve these serious issues.
Now I would like to add that the people of Boulogne Sur Mer were so kind and helpful. We enjoyed very good food and service at restaurants and the aquarium. Our taxi driver was cheerful, thoughtful and so very helpful. We hiked and walked and really enjoyed the town and people of Boulogne Sur Mer. A beautiful town worth a visit. I would just stay anywhere else...
Read moreThe smell of rotting fish blows across a strange, intimidating wasteland with a confetti of rubbish and cigarette butts. Your ears ring with the sound of an army of 25cc chicken chasers, revved by chavs thirsty for drugs dealt between this hotel and the next building. A fairground whirls and wails late into the next morning, with heads spinning like a scene from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The email promised prior to arrival, containing reportedly vital information, never arrives. On approaching a reception listed as non-existent on booking sites, a jolly man emerges from the back and hands you a card of codes for your apartment...you head upstairs in one of the sticky, unkempt lifts. Emerging into the corridor on floor 6, the carpets are heavily stained with unrecognisable pools of grime. The door code works, but the minor success is quashed as you survey the grimness awaiting you. Walls so marked that the original colour is indeterminable A dining space so sticky it must have been wiped down with spit and maple syrup A shower lined with black mould A bed so full of hair that you can only assume that a ritual shaving took place prior to your arrival An air conditioning control accompanied by a stained laminate which clearly states that there's no air conditioning (and there isn't- we sweated A LOT in the sweat box that was our Evancy apartment) Full bins were emptied into the corridor by residents, making a wonderful morning smell on exit
We sought a refund to book ANYWHERE else on day 1, which was declined. The staff could do nothing to resolve our 5 night character building experience. Despite what they might say in response to this review, I would rather have slept on the dog-excrement addled streets had we not been there as a whole family. Pay more and go...
