In principle, the Staybridge Suites in Cannes is not a bad hotel. However, those familiar with Staybridge Suites hotels may be disappointed.
But right from the start: The location of the hotel is quite good. You can walk in 5-10 minutes to the old town, the train station, shops, restaurants and the famous Croisette.
The building in which the hotel is located is not new, but has been very well renovated. The Staybridge Suites in Cannes was opened at the end of 2023 and is the first Staybridge Suites in France.
The rooms are, as you would expect from a Staybridge, relatively spacious and equipped with a very well-stocked kitchen. Washing machines and dryers are located on the 1st floor and can be used free of charge. For our taste, the rooms are well furnished, but not really homely. Perhaps a room divider in one place or another and a sofa, even in the normal double rooms, would have brought a little more coziness.
The housekeeping is quite ok. Our room was cleaned daily. Although not really consistently clean. On the day of departure, after everything had been put back in the suitcases, you could see dust lying on the floor everywhere in the room. The floor was probably not really cleaned. The bathroom was also cleaned, but not really thoroughly. A “sufficient” for housekeeping.
The included breakfast was okay. We have had better breakfasts in other Staybridge Suites, but also worse in others. In this regard it was ok. At this point we would like to emphasize the very friendly and helpful F&B manager. The other staff at breakfast were also very friendly.
As far as our status with IHG is concerned, we felt that we were treated so-so. There was a welcome drink, but our email with a few comments about our room was probably not read carefully. There was also no upgrade.
We chose this hotel for four reasons:
location - expectations were met work opportunities - The internet was good. But unfortunately there is no co-working space or similar in this Staybridge Suites like in other Staybridge Suites. You have to work either in the lobby or the restaurant (which only serves breakfast). There is a meeting room, but it is very small and without windows. Or you work in your room. social hour - Unfortunately, this didn't actually take place at Staybrdige Suites Cannes. There was a “social hour” once a week and for special events. However, only a glass of champagne and a few potato chips were served. But that was it. A far cry from the social hours offered by other Staybridge hotels. “Your home away from home”, as Staybridge sometimes says. But unfortunately some elements were missing in Cannes. For example, a decent gym. There is a fitness room, but it's really just a small room with a bike, a treadmill and a rowing machine. Plus dumbbells of max. 3kg, water and towels. But that was it.
It might have been better to make this hotel a Holiday Inn or a Holiday Inn Express. But as a Staybridge Suites we absolutely did...
Read moreWe endured a two-night stay at this hotel, and it was nothing short of disappointing. While the room boasted a decent size and a sizable balcony, the lack of any view was disheartening. The service, however, was the epitome of incompetence. The breakfast was a joke; everything served was cold and stale, with no effort made to replenish the spread. Guests were left to fend for themselves, even having to boil their own eggs – a ludicrous expectation for a supposedly upscale establishment. To add insult to injury, basic amenities like napkins were not readily available, requiring guests to request them. The incompetence extended to housekeeping, as evidenced by the empty soap bottles left untouched despite repeated requests for replacements. The following day, the room was left in disarray, with towels unchanged and dishes unwashed. The state of the garage was appalling, emitting a putrid odor reminiscent of a neglected dumpster. The pinnacle of our ordeal came during checkout, where the receptionist had the audacity to berate us for being six minutes late, displaying a level of rudeness that bordered on hostility. Since when the receptionist has the right to make comments like “you’re used to 5* hotels” for services are basic in 3* hotels. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this establishment at all costs; Cannes offers far superior accommodations deserving of...
Read moreThe hotel has a modern and clean design, with friendly staff and a decent breakfast selection. The fresh look of the hotel adds to its appeal, and the staff were attentive and polite, which initially set a positive tone for our stay.
However, the consequences of several service shortcomings became apparent during our stay. We chose this hotel based on a good experience with the same chain in Bangkok, expecting the same 4-star service. Unfortunately, the hotel failed to meet those expectations. For the price, there were no bathrobes, slippers, or basic toiletries provided. We had to ask at the reception and only received slippers and shower caps, which was disappointing.
The breakfast, while standard, had a particularly tasteless omelet, which felt surprising for a hotel of this caliber. Additionally, during the last two days, our key cards constantly got blocked, causing frustration as we had to repeatedly visit reception to get them reactivated.
These issues left us feeling that the service fell short of what a 4-star hotel should offer. In the end, while the hotel is clean and modern, it doesn’t stand out and lacks the refined touch that would...
