[The worst service I had ever experienced in Marriott system] I booked the room type of King Guest Room for 3 nights. Before arrival, the room type changed to Eiffel Tower View in the Marriott apps, and in the morning of the arrival day, it changed to Family Guest Room - Sacre Coeur View, my boyfriend and I were happy and looking forward to checking in. While during our check in, the staff in front desk seems to have difficulties finding our room, after 15 mins she said to me that you room had been “upgraded” to the biggest room in our hotel. We were happy until we entered the room, it’s a family room which has a soda bed unfolded(?), the room is supposed to be prepared for 4 guest instead of us. Even more than that, the window of our room is directly facing to the next building nearby. If you open the curtains, you can only see the people in the next building or the images reflection of other hotel rooms in our building, and the train station. There’s no privacy at all! We immediately asked front desk to arrange standard King Guest room we booked as the family room is not the one we asked for, ironically they claimed this is an “upgrade”, the front desk refused to help and directly mentioned hotel is fully booked and requested us to come back to front desk tomorrow if we still wait to change the room..
Day 2, we asked front desk 10am, 12pm, the front desk responded hotel is fully booked by default and asked me to come back again in person around 3pm to ask for a room…they said they cannot hold the room for us. Of course I’ll not stay in the hotel whole day just because of this ridiculous service, so I left the message in the Marriott apps chat box, guess what happened, the chat box replied to me please go to the hotel front desk to check…No one wants to take any responsibilities or actions to solve our problem or even listen. A repeatable loop: it’s fully booked please come again later and later and later…I directly replied to chat box that I had already went to front desk many times, and the room type we got is very uncomfortable, we can only close the curtains all the time during our trip, finally they replied it’s noted, and again asked me to come back to front desk the next day.
Day 3, I asked in the morning and the front desk staff finally replied to me they’ll provide a room for us while it’s not cleaned yet, it an be hold in the system until we’re back. When we’re back at night, a room indeed prepared for us, however it’s the same room just in the higher floor, which means you can still only see the building next to you…We were super tired in this whole communication, wasting of time and energy of all this. We came back to front desk and explained to duty front desk Diane that our main concern in privacy so the higher room will not help. In the end I mentioned that if there’s no room then we’ll just give up as we’re very tired. While Diane was trying very hard to help, after 30 mins, she prepared the standard guest room for us, which we asked since Day 1….(Thanks Diane’s help for arranging all this to make up our last day in Paris, she is the only one who took action and cared about what customer really needs)
Day 4, finally we had a morning that we can open the curtains completely and enjoy the view of Paris. While the house keeper ignore the sign of do not disturb and then directly opened our door and closed it without saying sorry…
The similar situation happened 2 months ago with one star rate in google review, apparently there’s a structural issue in the room allocation system, while the hotel just claim it as upgrade at both times without any explanation to customer, this is totally unacceptable and this is not just a single case. I think they don’t recognize it as an issue, which is even more scary.
Above experience totally ruined our impression towards Paris. As a Marriott titanium member, not only there’s no extra benefits staying in this hotel, but also the service not even meet the standard of Marriott branch. Think twice before you make the booking, I’m sure you deserve a...
Read moreThis was our first time in Paris. And with Paris being the last city in a four city Europe trip, I wanted to make sure we had a great view of the city from our room in case our elder age caught up with us so we booked a room with a view of the Tour Eiffel. |We arrived to Paris via train at Gare de Nord. When we first exited Gare de Nord, we feared that the stories we had heard of Paris (city was dirty and the people non-inviting) were true. But as our Uber got further away from Gare de Nord and closer to Gare de Lyon area, we noticed that was not true. In fact, we found Parisians to be very friendly and welcoming. The staff at the Courtyard were no exception. All staff was welcoming and helpful. Most speak French and one or two other languages. When we arrived, Anna greeted and welcomed us to the Courtyard. She explained the amenities of the property and helped us find a self-service laundry mat nearby. |Throughout our visit, Anna greeted as we passed the front desk and would ask how our stay was going or if we needed anything. ||The view of Paris from our room was fabulous. When we were resting in our room, we would sit by the window sills and watch the Paris life go by. At night, we would enjoy the view of the city and Tour Eiffel light up and twinkle on the hour.| |The location of the hotel was great. Being close to the Gare de Lyon station, it was very close to the Metro line (1 and 14), RER A trains and various bus routes making most landmarks of Paris a short ride and walk away. The station’s entrance/exit #13 is literally within 30 yards/meters of hotel. There is a bus stop about 2 blocks away for Bus#63 that takes you directly to the Trocadero. The RER A (red train) takes you to either to Arc de Triomphe or to Disneyland Paris. The BatoBus (hop-on boat) stop is across the bridge about 15-min walk. ||Being from the US and familiar with Courtyard, I didn’t expect much from the bistro on property. However, to our surprise the property had a professional chef in the kitchen. The Paleron de Boeuf Confit (Braised beef chuck) was absolutely delicious. My favorite thing to do was to review Le Menu de Jour (menu of the day) and order either the starter, main, soup or dessert of the day. The menu items are created daily based on what specialties the chef feels like creating. Regardless of what they are, rest assured they are going to be delicious and cooked to perfection. |For breakfast, we visited Delices, the bakery (boulangerie), around the corner for café au lait, pan au chocolate and quiche. Delicious and reasonably priced. ||Prior to visiting France, I practiced my French using the Babbel app and listened to RFI-France radio. While I am not fluent, I am comfortable with the basic greetings and needed vocabulary to order food and travel on the public transportation. I believe, this along with the openness to embrace the local customs and culture made our experience and stay there a truly memorable one.||One of our favorite things was getting bread, pastries and sandwiches from Maison de Isabelle and going to Parc du Champ de Mars for a picnic to enjoying the view of the Tour Eiffel. ||Tip: There are Brita water stations to refill water bottles...
Read moreWe can say this - if you love a beautiful, sprawling, view of a city that captures you by soul when you walk into the room, this hotel offers views of either the Eiffel Tower, or Sacre Coeur (both from afar) that are amazing. Paris is such a beautiful city, and from this height while you're not seeing up-close architecture, rather you can see the layout and twinkling lights of the city. This view itself was an artful highlight of our trip and something we will always remember.||We are late sleepers and the room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. We were in a room with a connecting door (which sometimes can be problematic with sound) - we could tell the next room was occupied but we had no issues with sound from the adjoining room. The hallways were quiet. There was filtered water available on each floor for bottle refills. The room was well appointed with an iron and board, espresso machine, a safe, cold refrigerator (not just an icebox), and the basic toiletries (no extra mini amenities, but had what you'd need - shampoo, conditioner, body wash). And if you ask for something at the desk, they deliver it to your room. There's a thermostat in the rooms which lets you easily regulate the temperature.||That said, there were some things about the hotel to note - the bathrooms are made of glass - a glass compartment in the room. It wasn't as bad as others we've encountered where it looks a little like a puppet show - it was translucent but opaque enough for privacy. But there was a wide enough gap along the door through which someone making their coffee could have eye contact with someone on the toilet. Enough said. (Note: this could be easily fixed with one more applied silicone weather stripping with a flange, as is affixed on the other side of the door).||Also, a rather unfortunate experience in the hotel's restaurant (we know, you're in Paris, you're not eating at the hotel) but we needed to, in a rush, and perhaps they were understaffed that day but it took an hour to get food, and it didn't come as ordered (as pertains to a food allergy). We're not picky, but this was a bad experience. To their credit, they did not charge for the item.||The hotel staff was otherwise very friendly and we felt especially welcomed by Clement when we arrived, and were greeted with a big smile whenever we saw him - which made us feel good throughout the stay!||The hotel is a large one, across the street from the Gare de Lyon station, very convenient. Good...
