NOT A 4-STAR hotel! True positives first: the location is decent, close to metro and train stations, and a nice 15 minute walk to Palais Granier. The staff is very friendly, and tried their best to address the various issues we had. The bed was pretty comfortable and AC was nice and strong.
With all that said, this was simply not a 4-star hotel experience. We booked the "Deluxe double room" for 4 nights which is supposed to be 280sqft(~26m²) based on info provided. The room they gave us was not only way smaller with barely any room to walk or put our backpacks, it was so dark with very limited natural light. It certainly did not help that the decor was dark-black carpet and black walls. There were no hangers, so we called the front desk at around 9:30pm asking for them along with an extra pillow. No word for many hours, then at 2am!. they called to say they don't have them. The next morning I contacted or travel site and they confirmed with Grand Lafayette that the room they gave us was indeed NOT the category we booked, and said they'd talk to us that evening. We weren't going to wait, so we talked to the front desk right after breakfast. The guy asked us "what is the problem with your room?" I said it is way small and not the category we booked. He then looked in their system and said the problem is that they were fully booked for that category (what?????), but asked for 15 minutes to find a solution. Thankfully he found a couple of acceptable rooms (although still not the same category we booked), and we were moved to a better room that has more open concept with good natural light. The closet was also larger that we could at least put one backpack in there. Don't expect privacy when you shower as there's no door, just a see-through curtain. There's not a whole lot of counter-space around the tiny sink, no cups to put tooth brush..etc. You get one kind of liquid soap for the hand, body and hair.
Another huge problem was the WiFi. We kept getting kicked off every 5 minutes, which made doing research and work emails very difficult. Based on other past reviews, this seems to be a common issue with other guests. The front desk staff actually had us log into the Staff network, which worked well for the rest of our stay. Some other guests got breakfast vouchers. It's puzzling why this issue was not fixed.
Breakfast was also very disappointing. Very limited selection and subpar quality. Our first couple of days there was no fresh fruit...finally the third morning there were some bananas, oranges that tasted old and dry and apples that were basically tasteless. Save your money and go elsewhere!
It's amazing that this hotel seems to be rated a 4-star hotel. Perhaps they just give the worst rooms to those who book on travel websites? Paying close to $300 a night, this whole experience was very...

Sit out on this spacious airy Terrace with a hot cup of café crème & hot croissant/Croque Monsieur fr Boulangerie Jean Noël Julien around corner (1 Rue de Provence). They've got "to die for" baked goodies & most enticing patisseries. After walking 14,000 steps around Paris, you can take a break & relax on the terrace w a cold glass of wine/champagne (fr little grocer across street). Soak in Paris afternoon or evening in your fab outdoor space. Also a Must visit: the original & oldest Chocolatier boutique in Paris (est.1761) "À La Mère de Famille" @35 Rue du Faubourg Montmartre, lovely aroma of chocolate in the air, it's only steps fr hotel. There are also restaurants, cute veg & fruit market all around hotel. You'll feel like a local staying at GH Lafayette. The staff are lovely & accommodating. Paris hotel rooms are smallish but the terrace more than makes up for it. From CDG: You can take the RER B to Gare du Nord (½hr ride) then take a taxi to hotel (7 mins). It's quicker than airport taxi ride (1h) into Paris. If you're tired & have heavy luggage, take taxi. But if it's daytime & you want a Parisian adventure, take RER B into Chatelet les Halles, switch to Paris Metro [Line 7] Châtelet to Cadet. It's 3 min walk to this charming hotel. Enjoy your Paris adventure! You'll love this charming hotel like it's...
Read moreDo not stay here, especially if your room ends with a 01 - I was in room 501 for 2 nights unfortunately. Not only was it ridiculously tiny, but more importantly it backed onto the lift. As in the headboard of the bed was right the other side of the wall from the lift. Why you would design a room like this I have no idea. I was looking forward to a good nights sleep on a work trip away from my 1 year old, needless to say I got hardly any sleep due to the noise, and I got to pay €466 for the pleasure. What an absolute joke. I also noticed that there were ants all over my floor which could explain why I felt itchy after sleeping there. The location is good but that’s the only plus point for this place. Needless to say I asked to switch rooms but was told they were fully booked so no. I visit Paris a number of times a year and will never go near this place ever again. When I checked out the guy didn’t even ask how my stay was, he just grumpily took my key card and disappeared off so no chance to complain - great service. Avoid...
