We visited the restaurant Madonna with the expectation of having a nice evening there. Our expectations were high because the location is extremely nice. However, there are two different rooms. In one, it seemed quite pleasant, but in the other, it was so loud and chaotic that we asked for a table in the other room. It was so loud that you couldn't even speak a word to the person across from you. The waiter, who was clearly overwhelmed (he was the only waiter for the entire room), reacted somewhat annoyed but went to check if he could get us another table. However, he came back and denied our request, stating that there were no tables available. It was already 9:30 PM, and it seemed there were still free tables in the quieter, more comfortable room. However, there didn't seem to be any willingness to give us another table. After 40 minutes, we hadn't even been able to order a drink, so we decided to leave the restaurant altogether. It's really a shame because we had expectations of enjoying a great evening in the beautiful location. I must emphasize that this restaurant is not at the level it presents itself to be. There are so many great restaurants in Paris, but this one definitely doesn't count among them. I have never done something like this—just leaving a restaurant—but this place is simply too expensive to receive such poor service in a terrible atmosphere. I'm not talking about a lively brasserie here but a table where people were constantly walking around and shouting. It was simply too much for us. We also noticed that other people in the room were visibly annoyed by the noise, as it was truly impossible to have a conversation. Really a shame. But the worst part, by far, is that we were willing to give the restaurant a chance by asking for another table, but this request was denied, even though there were plenty of tables available. So, we simply went to another restaurant—it’s not as if this is the only...
Read moreI recently visited Madonna, an Italian Osteria in Paris, drawn by its reputation for a pleasant setting and ambiance. Indeed, the restaurant lives up to these expectations. The staff’s friendliness adds a warm touch to the overall experience, and the table setting is nicely arranged, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Our evening began with cocktails, which were expertly crafted and quite enjoyable. For starters, we chose the carpaccio of scallops and the vitello tonnato. Presentation-wise, these dishes were a delight – perfectly instagrammable and visually appealing.
However, the culinary experience didn’t quite match the visual appeal. While the dishes were okay in taste, they didn’t impress me enough to recommend this place to friends for a gourmet experience. As an Osteria, I expected the pasta to be a highlight, but both the sea urchin pasta and the pasta vongolo, despite being served with a smile, were mediocre in taste. The pasta vongole, in particular, was overwhelmingly lemony and was mostly left uneaten.
Another area that needs improvement is the wine list. It lacks a good representation of fine Italian wineries, and the price gap between the house wine and the next level up is too steep.
In conclusion, Madonna is a place with great ambiance, Instagram-worthy plates, and friendly service. However, if you’re seeking a truly delicious Italian meal, this might not be the place. It’s more suited for a casual evening or a social media photo op rather than a...
Read moreIn the spirit of customer relations, I am letting you know that your server left me with a negative impression of an otherwise excellent restaurant.
Although it was clear that we were on a date- our server chose to pay an inordinate amount of attention to my boyfriend, while effectively ignoring me. When he remarked on the masks the staff were wearing, she brought only one to the table and proceeded to tie it on his face for him, unprompted. She then asked me, his date, to take a photo of the two of them together on my phone.. which I’d begun staring at to disguise my discomfort at the situation. As she did not offer to take a photo of us together, this is my only pic I have of our nye dinner. I am attaching the photo.
Neither of us felt this style of serving a couple was cool, and had it been the other way around ( a male server clearly ignoring him and exaggerating his attention towards me) my date would have complained to management, or worse.
All in all, the food was good. Shame the server couldn’t read...
