I stayed at Hôtel Garance for about a week late April in a single room. Overall, this is a good hotel in Paris for a fair price (at least what I payed)
Location: is one of its biggest advantages. The subway station is right near the hotel, the bus stop is right across the street, so it will get you mostly anywhere in the city in no time. There’s also another bus stop nearby (next to the subway) which goes to the direction of 4 appr.)
Food: there’re multiple restaurants nearby as well as in the area, ranging from McDonalds to local cafes and Brasseries. As far as I know the hotel also offers € 5 breakfast, but I didn’t have a chance to try it, as I chose to have breakfast in previously researched local places.
The hotel has a nice design, very pleasant and polite staff. Their english is good, so there was no miscommunication. They were also very helpful before my arrival, trying to answer all my questions and attempt to help me with early check in.
The bathroom in the room was clean. Notably, the shower is very good with a great water stream and hot water adjusting immediately , so you don’t have to stand in a cold water waiting for it to heat up (as I had experienced often times in Europe).
The staff also gave me the second key, even though I was staying alone, so I could live it inside to charge my devices when I’m out.
Disadvantages: there were some, but they were small and didn’t ruin my overall experience. In the room, there were some small lights that were broken. The one almost fell off when I touched it to turn it on. The other one - I had challenges switching it off the first night, but next day the staff showed me how it’s done. I guess I was too tired the first night to think straight and figure it out myself.
I also saw a few ants nearby my bed, but this was only once , and (being the person who’s scared of insects to death) I checked it everyday and there was none that I could find. So maybe I was just slightly unlucky with this.
Finally, I assume the walls are pretty thin, so I was able to hear people using the stairs around midnight and in the morning, but again, this is not a new building, so I don’t really think that this is a hotel problem. Overall, the guests were all polite and respectful, so it didn’t really bother me that much.
Overall, if you have a chance to secure a fair price there, given the location of it, I can recommend this place. Single room doesn’t really have any view but the wall, but I noticed that some other rooms have a street view which is aesthetically pleasing, if this is important for you. Especially, if you’re a tourist visiting the city - the location is the biggest perk of this place, so you shouldn’t regret it. And compared to other hotels I saw, this one has a relatively modern design, if this is...
Read moreWe stayed in the hotel for 4 nights (my spouse, mother and myself). My mother is in a wheelchair and stayed in the accessible room.
First of all, we arrived at the hotel with the electrical wheelchair and there was no ramp. This is unacceptable for a hotel that is advertised as accessible. Luckily, the receptionist was so kind to help us get in and look for a solution. He also created a temporary ramp with some wooden panels the next day, which was very kind of him, but definitely not a suitable substitute for a ramp. Breakfast is on the 1st floor and the elevator is also way too small for a wheelchair.
The accessible room wasn’t any better: The room wasn’t clean, apart from clean sheets and towels. The closet, bathroom and floor were dirty. The lamp on the right side of the bed was broken. The reading lights didn’t work either. The shower temperature was impossible to set right: it was either incredibly hot or cold.
We asked the personnel several times to fix the lamps and the shower. They never fixed it. The room was still not cleaned properly when we left. On top of that, they didn't even replenish the bathroom utensils/toilet paper and give clean towels in the accessible room.
Unlike promised, the manager wasn’t there when we left. The receptionist couldn’t do anything except tell us to send an e-mail to the manager. We sent several e-mails and never even got a reply, which is really disrespectful and outrageous.
As is already very clear from review, we had to: make do with a pile of wooden panels as a substitute for a ramp; elevator to breakfast is way too small for a wheelchair; my mother had to have cold showers for her entire stay; her room has never been cleaned properly; and they didn’t even bother to give her the standard clean towels, shower gel and toiletpaper.
Really unacceptable for this hotel to be listed as accessible and asking those prices for the lack of cleanliness...
Read moreLocation was convenient as my mate and I wanted to walk everywhere. we're quite walking enthusiasts and it was great to start from the old market towards Pantheon and the Grand Mosque then crossing the river towards the other side walking the Seine towards the Lovre all the way up to Arc de triumph and Tour Eiffel, So if you're planning on walking I'd highly recommend this hotel. The room was clean and no major complaints but was quite small and not much space to move around at all and outside of the room is quite dated and less than pleasant, I didn't want to hang out of the room. The evening receptionist did not speak a word of English and seemed slow altogether as I can speak a little french but he still didn't seem to either understand my point or care to offer any help anyway! We were leaving Paris on the day the strike began and needed advice on how to get to the airport but he could not point out anything other than waving a taxi at 4.00 am in the morning which is a method I'd learnt a long time ago never to rely on to go to the airport! I asked for a breakfast box to takeaway as we were leaving earlier than breakfast time but still the only answer I got was No! many things were dissappointing and if I wasn't such a confident traveller I would've been nervous on what to do! I would stay again only for the convenience of the location but definately wouldn't be my...
