Last minute .com-does it do what it says on the tin?||My wife and I decided to book a last-minute city break to Paris. A long-held ambition for my wife who loves the history of the French revolution, the romance of the city, the spirit of the people who rose up with the words Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité.||I pen this in the hope of starting a revolution for all those weary travellers who have gone before me with dreams of an escape to Paris, hoping to be imbued with the romance of such an historical city.||The euro star was a pleasant experience which created an expectation that the rest of our sojourn would equally follow suit.||Having arrived early at hotel hibiscus we were not too alarmed to see the overall ennuyeux façade of the décor, after all it surely would provide the basic requisites of a 2-star establishment?||Mon Dieu! On entering the room, the window shutter would not latch ensuring that the temperature in the room was somewhere in the region of below freezing. Despite several attempts it was clear that the window would not latch, and my wife called for assistance from receptionist. A rather taciturn man entered with a screw driver and managed to get the window to latch, however as this was not secure, due to its age and visible mould build up, the winds outside hammered the shutter and was clearly an inadequate measure in blocking the elements!||The power socket was found to be literally hanging out of the wall. It was only in place due to someone recently bodging it together with Polyfilla, some of which fell out onto the filthy floor every time one put in or took out a plug! It also received an equally cursory attention with the repair man stating that the socket worked, but most worrying was the fact that he did not acknowledge the obvious - health and safety hazard in the extreme! ||Turning our attention to the shower room this revealed that there was a leak with water on the floor which included the hair of previous occupants!! Cleanliness and standards obviously not an issue in this “hotel.” The sink revealed fresh blood splatters!! On attempting to close the door to eliminate the incessant drips from the malfunctioning shower we discovered the bathroom door would not even shut as it had been severely damaged and swollen by dampness and water!! ||When confronted on these issues minimal concern was expressed by two members of staff present and they were very dismissive of our concern or plight. ||At this point my wife who is well read in the genre of crime fiction uttered the words “unspeakable things have happened in this room!”. In an attempt to rescue the situation and with stoicism, I attempted to reassure her that at least the linen on the bed was clean. However, looking down the large blood stains on the divan beleaguered my words! ||Peeling back the linen revealed a mattress so stained that an alternative light source would not be necessary! I knew then that we had reached our Waterloo! There was no choice but to contact last minute.com to rescue the situation.||Unfortunately, as described by many reviewers the call wait was inordinately long. The result was we were to be charged for the room and an attempt was made to secure alternative accommodation but and this was reiterated by last minute .com, we were to be charged for additional costs. Despite our inconvenience and ruined holiday and celebration, it appeared we would have to move ourselves across town and pay an additional fee for the...
Read moreUnfortunately my experience here was uncomfortable.. so I advised the hotel I would arriving late in the evening arrived and the man serving me talked like he hated him work and didn’t want to help anyone , it’s ridiculous you have to also pay for wifi €3 - 2 hours , €5 - 4hours which we got every night basically and the staff were always so sad & looked like they hated working there! Wasn’t pleasant at all talking to them. When we arrived me and my partner were both tired and we lugged our huge two suitcase up 4 lots of stairs and the hostess just watched up and didn’t mention to say there was a lift, very frustrating. Got to the room holes in our bed sheets lovely & the bathroom door didn’t even close properly so no privacy while on the loo but apart from this it was a 2 star room would not stay there again for the period of time we did 5 days was too long, would only consider for a short stay. The rooms in the level seem like they are so close to each other me and my partner were in bed one night & a couple next to us decided they wanted to have a screaming yelling session at 1/2am in the morning was ridiculous!! last down fall for me was the house keep I specifically asked for no house keeping as I saw reviews that they just work in un announced and yes that is correct they do. They knock once and if you don’t open the door by about 5 seconds they open the door so many times was very hard to communicate. Over all was a very...
Read moreA very basic hotel room. Had to hold the shower head to shower as no holder or anywhere to place it. The double bed mattress went down in the middle and so you slowly fell into it during the night. sheets had stains on when we arrived. The cleaners leave the doors side open all day so all the bugs are in there at night. |It was extremely noisy at night until 4/5am even during the week and we are a young people who like to go out so not usually bothered about noise. ||The WiFi is not free, however you can connect to a neighbouring hotels Wi-Fi for free but signal isn't very good. |The lift took forever and there wad a very unfriendly man at reception. ||It was really good location, lots of bars and restaurants around and metro station 2 minute walk. 10 mins to Gare de Nord station on metro or 20 min walk. ||The bars close by offered happy hours between 4 and 8pm with cheaper drinks, would recommend as drinks are expensive in Paris otherwise. There is also a nice river behind the hotel where you can sit (alot of people do) with a bottle of wine or some beers and chill if you want a cheap evening.|Would not stay here again, would choose a neighbouring hotel because it's...
