We stayed from May 23 until May 26th in this hotel. This was my first stay in France. The hotel cost us over 1000 Euro for that stay. My first assumption when booking this hotel was that a 5 star hotel, as it was billed when i made my reservation, is generally the same around the world. That is not true. There is no comparison between this hotel and a true 5 star hotel in America. By American standards this is a 2 star hotel. If you have ever stayed in a dated best western in the states, that is this place. I have a hard time understanding the positive reviews for this place. I wonder if it is some type of scam to promote the place. I did learn from the front desk person that there was a recent management change and the services were not the same as they used to be. First let me start with the room i paid over $1000 EUROs for. It was smaller than my walk in closet at home. There was approximately 2 feet on one side of the bed 4 feet on the other side of the bed and 3 feet between the end of the bed and the wall. When i called the front desk to ask if there was a bigger room, they said that rooms are small in paris and this was the biggest room they had. The floor was vinyl. When was the last time you were in a 5 star hotel room with a vinyl floor? There was red carpeted steps that looked older than my high school kids that lead to the bath room which was the only tiled area in the room. There were no usb ports in the room to charge your phone. The AC fan i don't believe worked as it took a full day for the room to get cool. If you want the hostel experience at the 5 star price this is the place for you. The service: My wife made the mistake of trying the 20 Euro breakfast. She could not eat it. We only received maid service once during our stay. We ran out of soap after the second day. We needed a ride to the airport for our flight. I gave the front desk my flight information. The person there told me it was a flat rate of 50 Euro to go to the airport and they would get us a driver that the hotel had certified to be good and not give us the run around. The driver did not speak any english. He refused to turn on or possibly had a non functioning AC in his car so we had to deal with the heat all the way to the airport. To add insult to injury the driver took us to wrong place. He took our luggage out and pointed to the entrance took 50 euro and left. When we went inside we looked for our airline and could not find it. Finally i found an english speaking information person who told us we were at the wrong place. We had to take a shuttle to the correct place even after the front desk person had assured us that they would get us to the correct place because they screened their drivers. In conclusion if you are a college kid back packing your way to Paris, this is likely the hotel experience you might expect. If you are actually used to staying in 4 or 5 star hotels then please take my advice and stay clear of this place. I may have flushed a 1000 Euros down the toilet but i don't want another unsuspecting US tourist to get ripped off...
Read moreMy teen son and I just returned from a lovely week's stay at the Hotel Opera Liege in Paris. Finding twin beds in Paris wasn't easy but this hotel has them so it was perfect for us. From the moment we arrived our stay was everything we hoped for and more. The lobby is quaint, the front entry vibrant with lots of lights and it's covered but you feel like you're outside. There was always someone at the front desk and you need your room key to activate the elevator so it was very secure, in addition to being in a safe neighborhood and only 1/2 block to the nearest Metro stop (Liege). It's about a 10 min walk to Gare St. Lazare which offers several Metro lines and a direct train out to Versailles. It took us 15 min to walk to Montmartre in one direction and 15 to walk to the Opera House in a different direction.| The room, although not large, was just large enough and offered plenty of storage for our belongings in a large closet with plenty of hangers and 5 shelves. There were also 3 very large windows , each offering an enormous "ledge". Unlimited complimentary bottled water is available at the Honor Bar where in addition to the water, other drinks are available and you just scan the QR code on the honor system and it's added to your bill. The daily breakfast is extra, but well worth it. They offered 6 hot items including eggs, a breakfast meat and 4 other rotating items in addition to charcuterie, a variety of cheeses, breads, muffins, pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, various juices, cereal, and spreads including peanut butter and Nutella. Water, and hot drinks also available.| The entire hotel was clean, everywhere we looked. There's a charming rooftop on the 5th floor with tables and chairs, umbrellas are available if you don't want to shlep yours from home. We quite oddly had not 1 but 2 dry cleaning emergencies during our week and we were taken care of without issue. We were greeted with a smile at all times and felt genuinely welcome. The front desk area also continuously offered a variety of complimentary snacks and water. They are true to their word on not offering any single use plastics.| I am so pleased to be able to wholeheartedly recommend the Hotel Opera Liege. Special shoutout to Airton and Miriam for their high level of professionalism, warmth, courtesy and grace. |Oh, and they will arrange airport transport for you (for a fee) in both directions which was a huge help! Thank you to Michael, our driver with...
Read moreThe experience for the most part was fine. Would I stay here again? Probably not. They don't allow early check in and if you are out for most of the day, they will not move your bags into your room. They provide flavored water and candy in the lobby, which was a nice albeit unsanitary touch. The books are not real but just for decoration. We learned from other folks there is an Honest Bar which was a cute concept, where you help yourself to various drinks, alcoholic and otherwise, and pay via an app or at the front desk. You can refresh your room water and coffee allotment from this area for free. Elevator is tiny and only fits 2 with luggage or 4 without. If you opt for the breakfast, the food is actually very good. Since it is in the 9th arrondissement, it is close to all of the shops, cafes, restaurants, so the location is quite good. Once you figure out the METRO system, and realize you should take the Liege METRO 1-2 blocks away, it can be a good hotel to stay in geographically. The rooms themselves are quite small. We've stayed in bigger rooms in Paris. There is no USB charger so bring your own converter. ||||We did have 1 negative experience through no fault of the hotel itself: there was a party going on next door and while the front desk said all efforts were made to make the neighbors stop making noise, the party went on until midnight which made for a sleepless night for quite a few guests staying at the hotel. The front desk person troubleshooting the situation said he was a sub and had no idea what to do. Made us wonder what would happen if there was a fire or an attack...No matter who is on staff, that person should be prepared, which he wasn't. Any hotel would apologize to the guests and offer some type of refund, meal, or other form of apology, whether it is their fault or not. This hotel did not unfortunately. We made suggestions and while we were comped a free breakfast, no partial refund was offered whatsoever. Made us also wonder if this was the first time such noise takes place since it is in a residential neighborhood, and we all deduced, it won't be the first or last time. You can take your chances on this location. For the price, it is a 3. For the location, it is a 4. For customer service, a 3 since there were other front desk staff who were friendly. You can't stop neighbors from partying. If you are ok with not sleeping for a random night, take your chance on staying...
