I am posting an update to respond to the false accusations made by Valerie Benigno of Hotel Saint Paul Rive Gauche regarding construction at the hotel. The original review, and photos of Valerie's response are attached as photos.||||1) Valerie stated that I was notified by the hotel multiple times that there was construction going on, and that I had the opportunity to cancel.||||My response: During my multiple email communications to book the hotel, the construction was never mentioned. Also, Valerie kept on changing her story. She stated that the Hotel notified Travelzoo that the construction which was originally scheduled in the summer was moved up, and that it was Travelzoo's obligation to notify customers. Travelzoo states they never received any notification from Hotel Saint Paul Rive Gauche and would not send customers to this kind of situation.||||2) I had booked multiple vouchers, and Valerie falsely accused me of lying/manipulating things just to receive a refund.||||I did initially go for one night by myself (on a Friday night, checking out on Saturday. During that initial stay, I was already displeased by the construction outside the window. However, there was no construction noise on Saturday morning, so I just let it go even though it was tolerable but not ideal to have construction. After a 1 day conference at another location in Paris, I returned for my 2 day stay there. There was loud construction noise on both Monday and Tuesday mornings, waking us up at 8:21a.m. Again the hotel denies this and saying hammering only started at 9a.m., but we have time-stamped videos showing construction noise at 8:21a.m. We could not sleep and subsequently got sick from the lack of rest. We then cancelled the remaining 2 nights and found another hotel in Paris.||||As a Travelzoo customer for more than 14 years, I have booked more than 50+ hotels/experiences, and this is the worst one. Valerie is dishonest and accuses me of manipulating things to get a refund.||||Most Travelzoo merchants have provided a great experience. I do not appreciate false accusations and dishonesty like Valerie has demonstrated. I have notified Travelzoo of this dishonest and unethical behavior and hope they will stop doing business with this hotel.||||Valerie states they provide great value. Not true. Many other better hotels. Don't stay at this hotel.||||---------------------------------------------------||Original review: March 12, 2025||||Lots of construction going on, and was woken up by nonstop, banging and hammering that shook the room||The construction noise and smoking from workers outside the room, made it very difficult to get rest.||||There was extension scaffolding, and there were construction workers, buckets, paint materials, as well as nails outside our room at about 8:21am, there was loud hammering and banging outside our window. This woke both of us up and this banging and hammering continued until 10:30 AM when we left the room. It happened on weekdays. And we could not get the rest. When we opened the window to get some fresh air, there was a worker right outside our window smoking, and our room was now filled with smoke.||||We booked the hotel via Travelzoo, which generally selects good quality hotels. The construction was not mentioned by Travelzoo, or on the hotel website. We only found out when we arrived. We have canceled the rest of our stay at this hotel because we could not sleep there properly and are exhausted.||||Having traveled extensively to many countries and stayed in many hotels this was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in a hotel.||||Attaching photos of the view...
Read moreStaff was very friendly. Lots of stairs here. Our room was beautiful with a lovely pattern on the walls and modern bathroom. Our bed was actually two twin beds pushed together. We got the fruit basket which was great. In staying here again, I would try for a room on a lower floor, try to pack shoes which are both cute and comfortable, and assume that when coming from the U.S. you will sleep through breakfast and sometimes lunch. There was a hot water kettle in the room, a little instant coffee, and a fridge / minibar we never opened. Dinner places often open late and stay open late so that's no problem. We had protein bars & granola that we packed and did use up due to that whole time change. If doing this again, I'd pack some more things to make a quick breakfast or snack from. Crackers, peanut butter, instant oatmeal, my own instant coffee or tea & a few tiny creamers and sweetener. Eateries in close walking distance were sushi, kebabs, etc, with creperies a further stroll onto other streets. The elevator is compact, and the stairs somehow cause you to feel like a tipsy existentialist. I'd seriously think twice about traversing them in heels, or if you did have a drink (especially going down). The lobby had cute portraits of animals dressed like nobility with people bodies. You leave the very antique key w the desk each time you leave. Our room window actually opened out wide to a nice view of other...
Read morePerhaps, those reviewers who call the staff of Hotel Saint-Paul "friendly" and "helpful" are remembering the olden days when Parisians were in fact rude to the non-French speakers. For today's standard, however, they are very condescending. Information (where one can find good restaurants, what is the best way to get to the CDG, etc.) comes only in small trickles, and only when the question is phrased just so, and, worse, can be inaccurate or, at least on one occasion, intentionally misleading (don't use their recommended "drivers" to take you to the airport; there will be an additional hidden charge, and takes 50% more time than they tell you; RER is your best option, fast and cheap, with the caveat, however, that there are stairs at the Luxembourg station). I soon gave up and started asking locals, in a mixture of English and broken French, and found them to be much more helpful and friendly, which included taxi drivers, shoppers, dog walkers and students. I also know that there are other hotels in the same neighborhood, whose staff is friendly and willing to help. Otherwise a convenient location, and a clean decor (though the bathtub was...
