The starters came quickly and were freshly prepared. The lamb tagine was nicely done, with plenty of vegetables, preserved lemons, and a large portion of lamb -- probably 200g of meat! Vegetable tagines were quite tasty, but the star of the show was the couscous (by the Moroccan use of the term -- meaning a vegetable stew, that is served with fluffy semolina grains). The "semoule" (or couscous, as we'd call it in American English) was the best I've ever had: fluffy, flavorful and perfect for absorbing the rich sauces.
Although the food was solid, what really stood out for me was the staff: friendly and outgoing, chatting with us in English and French and genuinely bonding with us. They gave us a free portion of couscous (stew) to try -- we hadn't even ordered it! -- when they learned that we'd never had the actual dish by that name. They sacrificed the possibility of our ordering dessert simply to educate us, for which we felt we had to reward them by ordering a round of digestifs.
I'll happily return to Le Mechoui any time...
Read moreLe Méchoui du Prince is the reason I fell in Love with Moroccan food, a cuisine that I have been very curious to try. The place has been in Paris since 1969 and is a landmark when it comes to Moroccan gastronomy. I loved the traditional decoration and the warm hospitality of the owner who is always there to make sure that everything is perfect. I was welcomed with on the house amuses bouches; soujouk, potatoes and olives. As appetizers I tried the Pastilla and the Briouate au chèvre. They were so delicious especially the sweet and sour taste of the Pastilla filled with chicken and topped with sugar. For main platters I had the Tajin Poulet and the Couscous with meat assortment. The tajin was exceptional! The chicken was too juicy and the flavors were out if this world. The couscous comes with a delicious vegetables bouillon and meat. Don’t miss out on the desserts and the minted tea. What a great way to get introduced to Moroccan gastronomy at Le...
Read moreI had a great dinner here with my girlfriend. We were visiting Paris for a week, staying nearby.
We walked in with no reservations, for the first time. Nice morrocon decor, and cozy space. We chose to sit on the second room close to the window.
We ordered two appetizers and a tagine bowl, whilst drinking wine.
The appetizers came out fast, and were delicious.
The chicken tagine served us both perfectly and are also served with a bowl of couscous. We scooped the entire tagine plate, there was even some cuscous left when we finished eating.
For dessert, we order a crepe berbere au miel, which we loved.
Last but no least, the waiter served us some traditional mint tea.
Prices are more than reasonable. €30 person, 2 appetizers, tagine, 2 glasses wine each, and dessert.
If you want to take some time off the beaten path and the french cousine, try this place out. You will not...
