We wanted to love this hotel, but we just didn't. If you're looking for a good area and a decent, no-frills hotel at a pretty good price, this fits the bill. If you weren't looking for a higher-end experience (which is how they present on social media and their website), it's a good spot. That's not what we were looking for or how we felt this hotel was billed.
I'll start with the good - the location is FABULOUS. Saint-Germain area is my favorite in Paris because it's close to tourist sites but also a local area with tons of good shopping and restaurants. The hotel is right next to the Cluny Metro stop, which connects with RER B/Saint-Michel and directly to CDG. Rooms have been renovated and they do provide all your basics plus a few upgrades like robes and slippers. The price is good for the area and the size of the room was good (we had a "Junior Suite" which was about the size of a normal US hotel room, & paid ~$300/night in mid-May 2022, which is beginning of high season). They also have some kind of soundproofing on the windows so you don't get a ton of street noice.
Now for the less good. As background, I speak French, come to Paris often, & try not to be the ugly tourist/don't expect European hotels to be exactly like American hotels.
That said, this hotel barely meets the minimums for a 4-star hotel in France. Based on photos from 4-5 years ago, it was formerly a 2-3 star hotel and has been renovated fairly recently. It does have an elevator, but it is tiny and extremely slow. There is no restaurant, only breakfast (they do "offer room service" but not sure how because there's no real restaurant on site). There is a bar area but it is not functioning - there are signs that if you want a drink you should ask the concierge to make you one. They advertise spa services but they're entirely outsourced so we weren't really sure how that works. No other amenities (fitness facility, courtyard, etc).
The renovations in the rooms are extremely bare-bones/superficial (Instagram photos aren't really reality). We were in a junior suite on the top floor (so low, sloping ceilings) and our bed was a double, not a queen. It was the hardest bed I have ever slept in in my life. Pillows were tiny - definitely not even standard sized pillows, no blankets, low quality linens. No frills. Not great quality carpet/tiles/etc. The hairdryer doesn't work unless you're holding down the button the entire time. The only additional plug in the bathroom is on the hairdryer and it didn't transfer enough electricity for my other appliances to work. Toilet paper was low quality. The phone didn't actually connect to the concierge. Overall the room just wasn't super comfortable, functional or particulary aesthetically appealing (our room was reds/greys, not what is on Instagram). Their minibar prices are decent though!
We got engaged on this trip & received absolutely no excitement or congratulations from staff. We normally stay at a boutique 5-star hotel nearby that was booked, and they made a bigger ordeal of it when we simply went for drinks there one night! My bag was delayed and delivered to the sister hotel across the street instead of ours, and the only reason we realized it is because we checked the other hotel ourselves even though the front desk had a delivery timeframe & mixups are common between the hotels. Everyone was nice, but no one went out of their way to be helpful or welcoming.
Our AC didn't work the entire time (we didn't realize it until the last night when it got much warmer outside- it was just warmer than we thought it should be). We mentionend a few times that we thought it was running slow and no one offered to help. They offered to move us on the last night after midnight when we realized it wasn't running at all, but we were leaving for the airport at 8AM and it made no sense.
We gave the stay 4 stars because while it wasn't a BAD experience and many guests will like it based on what they're looking for, we were looking for something more upscale than what we received and what we felt...
Read moreIf you’re looking for the perfect Parisian home base, Hotel Belloy is it. We spent two nights here and honestly, I can’t imagine a better location. Whether you’re hopping on public transit, grabbing an Uber, or just heading out on foot, you’re set. The metro is right around the corner, and we found ourselves surrounded by amazing croissants (seriously, some of the best we’ve ever had), cute boutiques, and classic Paris sights—all within easy walking distance.||Our stay got off to a wonderful start: when we arrived, we were greeted with some sweet treats, a thoughtful welcome note, and the surprise of an upgraded room. It was such a warm, personal touch and really set the tone for our visit.||Our room was up on the sixth floor, which gave us a lovely sense of privacy and quiet. The neighborhood itself is peaceful, and the hotel is blissfully quiet too, so we slept soundly every night. The bed was super comfortable—always a big deal for us when traveling—and the room was spotless. One of my favorite features was the windows: they opened fully, letting in fresh air and a bit of that Paris magic.||A couple of things to note: the elevator is very Parisian (read: tiny!), so if you have lots of luggage or are claustrophobic, just be prepared. Also, the bathroom didn’t have any counter space, which made it a bit tricky to spread out toiletries. And while they provided most amenities, conditioner wasn’t in the room—we had to go down to the front desk to ask for it. That said, the staff couldn’t have been nicer. They were always friendly and went out of their way to help us, even calling restaurants to confirm reservations we’d made before our trip.||We didn’t try the hotel breakfast, so I can’t comment on that, but honestly, with so many fantastic bakeries nearby, it wasn’t a problem. For everything else, we felt really well taken care of.||All in all, it was a 10 out of 10 experience for us. We’d absolutely stay at Hotel Belloy again on our next trip to Paris. If you want a comfortable, clean, and quiet spot in the heart of the city, with staff who truly care and those little extra touches, this...
Read moreI stayed at this charming boutique hotel in the Latin Quarter over Thanksgiving, November, 2015. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is smaller than its website pictures give its appearance to be; but such hubris is earned by its compelling old world charm, cleanliness, and warm and friendly staff. I particularly enjoyed the free champagne offered every afternoon in the main salon. Breakfast was great as well, and a bit more than I expected for being offered as part of the price of your stay. Not your typical continental style breakfast of croissants, juice, and coffee, but a full English breakfast of eggs, various breakfast meats (ham, sausage, etc.), toast and jam, plus a nice selection of French pastries and croissants. The breakfast room downstairs was quite large enough to accommodate all the hotel's guests as well. On the down-side, the hotel's rooms are small, especially the bathrooms, but adequate. Yet, one appreciates the efficient use of space in a building shaped like a slice of pie.
Perhaps the most commendable feature of this hotel though is its superb location: an easy five minute walk to the Pont-de-Neuf bridge, Ste. Chappelle, and Notre Dame. Public transportation is excellent as well: RER and Batobus stops on the Isle-de-la-Cite near Notre Dame, plus two bus stops across Boulevard St. Michel very close to the hotel. You could walk up Boulevard St. Michel to the Sorbonne, Pantheon, and Luxembourg Gardens, and the excellent Musee de Cluny was right across the street. This has got to be the best hotel value in Paris in terms of cost, location, and...
