La Maison Secrète — Hotel in Sarlat-la-Canéda

We wanted to spend 4-5 days in Sarlat this summer, and chose La Maison Secrète for our time in the area. Even though they only rent by the week, this was a much better alternative to the local hotels, as the cost per night, even with not using two or three of the nights is better than a local hotel. In addition, La Maison is located close (15-20 minutes by car) to many of the very beautiful areas along the Dordogne River valley.

La Maison is in extremely good condition, and very nicely appointed. There is plenty of room to spread out in a manner not available in a hotel. In addition, the owners are very responsive to requests for information and any issues one might face. They are also very kind and helpful, and gave us a great recommendation for a "Vol de Montgolfier".

There are a couple things one should be aware of if staying here. First, during the time we were there (peak summer), parking was occasionally difficult to find. There are several places close by (some free, some not), but at peak times finding a spot in the closest lot may be challenging. Second, Google maps does not realize that some of the streets in the area are one way. So be careful before blindly following the pleasant voice telling you to turn right or left! In fact, the house address is on a street that says is it inaccessible by car from either direction. Yet Google directed me to use the street in the direction that is only available to the Gendarmerie. (See Pic).

Those minor inconveniences aside, La Maison Secrète was the perfect place to make our base in the region. We would definitely return if ever in...

We were extremely pleased and pleasantly suprised with this accomodation. It was our first trip to the area and we were told that Sarlat was a great place to base ourselves for visiting he surounding villages. Being at a very easy walking distance to the town centre, we didn't even need to hire a car for the first few days as there is plenty to see and do in Sarlat. The town centre is litterally at your door step but with the added convenience of free parking.||The accomodation is very stylishly decorated and the modern kitchen facilities were easy to use. I cooked almost every night for two weeks and felt very comfortable as everything was thought of from modern appliances to garlic crusher.||Marc and Sandrine were very helpful and approchable, always offering great advise whenever we needed it and they never seemed to be bothered by my silly questions. They really made sure we were comfortable, yet independant.||We are already thinking about staying there again next year. I would only suggest that one needs to be comfortable with climbing a slightly steep staircase to the upper level.||Other than that, an absolutely lovely...

My wife an I stayed here in May, our first visit to the Dordogne region and it couldn't have been a better experience. The owners keep it impeccably clean and offered a warm welcome with information and recommendations. La Maison Secrete is as described and even more. The location couldn't be any better in this often crowded town. You are steps away from parking as well as the center of this beautiful medieval town and yet traffic, noise, and privacy are not an issue. We have traveled extensively and found this place to be one of our best...
