Situated on the outskirts of Sarlat, just across the road from the Place du Quatorze Juillet and the town's gendarmarie, just a short walk from the town centre is The Creamery, a lovely restaurant and fromagerie which serves great food and cheese.
We were walking past and saw the lunchtime menu; a drink, a main course and desert all for €14. We opted for a glass of rosè and red wine, and both had the courgette, carrot, fennel, mozzarella and goats cheese tart with potatoes and salad. The tart was beautiful, the texture and flavour of the goat's cheese combined with the courgette and carrot 🥕 was lovely.
At €14 for the menu it is very good value for money, as menus in the main square are anything upwards of €25.
My wife then had a chocolate mouse whilst I had the apple and prune crumble for dessert; again lovely.
The service was both excellent, and the waiter was very friendly and was happy to mix up some English with our very broken French.
A lovely meal, which I followed with an espresso. All for about €30 including the espresso.
It was lovely to sit in the warm mid-October (2024) sunshine and to enjoy the food and service.
It's very popular too, so you may be unlucky if you want to sit outside, so you may have a little wait but it's worth it.

Read moreI can understand why this nice casual, and relaxed, restaurant ranks highly on Trip Advisor. But, you need to view it for what it is, then you know what to expect.
It is a nice casual uncomplicated place for dining. But it is not to be compared on same basis as some of the restaurants in town offering fuller menus and wider choice.
That said, if you want a truly flavorsome lunch or simple dinner, don't overlook La Cremerie.
The day we visited for lunch, the menu of the day offered vegetable samosas and they were superb. And the wine by the glass was excellent.
The team that run it have such a friendly, smiling approach too. Check it out. It is not in the heart of the old town, but only a short walk away, and worth making the effort...
Read moreSo good we went twice in two days. Catered well for me as a vegetarian and even accommodated my aversion to goat cheese. Two fantastic lunches. We had the camembert and also tried two of the daily specials - one a vegetable/cheese gratin with lovely complex flavours and the other a spin on a croque monsieur with extra veg. We went for the cheese (which was fabulous) but additionally surprised and blown away by dessert. We managed to try 5 in 2 days! I'm not even a dessert person but am still thinking about that chocolate mousse. Warm and attentive service. Not...
