On arriving at the property you are welcomed by a sign "You are not at CAMPING!!!", this we thought quite strange. We read the rest of the sign which read "All external food and beverage of the hotel are not allowed in the rooms and in the hotel grounds". This was not the only sign, there was another right outside our room!||||These proprietors will not allow visitors water or any food on the premises. Considering we are in Evian we were totally shocked. ||||They are pressurising everyone to buy their goods. If you want to drink then you buy from their mini bar in the room and nowhere else. Breakfast was 14 Euros which we declined. We felt so uncomfortable that we stayed out all day.||||We stayed for 2 nights in June 2018 and I can honestly say that in the month we travelled Europe it was the most uncomfortable hotel to have visited. ||||We have run guest houses for years and I always make my guests welcome with tea, coffee or even a cake on their arrival, not here, the welcome was non existent, unless you paid for EVERYTHING.||||Evian water is very cheap, you can even fill up at the fountain in the town for free and in the supermarkets it is 98 cents for a large bottle but the proprietors are so mean they couldn't even put a bottle in the room.||||I checked out and told them I was not happy with the regimentally of the hotel. The owners wife screamed at me and her husband lunged at me in reception when I said I would reflect my views online. She had to pull him away. His anger was beyond belief. Never have I experienced anything like it. ||||He accused us of Camping. He had obviously looked at all our luggage in our Land Rover Freelander.. We were away for a month and travelling around Europe so yes we had a lot of luggage but never camped. We stayed in nice friendly accommodation every night, until we arrived at the Oasis.||||This is a clean hotel but with no atmosphere at all. Unless you want to bow down to these owners and pay for absolutely everything then I would suggest you find somewhere else. He wanted 4 Euros for a Magnum.||||His drinks list was extortionate. Water, for a small bottle was 3.60 euros and any alcoholic drink was 10 Euros.||||I really don't know how anyone could stay here and feel comfortable.||||Dreadful experience, never to...
Read moreI'm nonplussed about the negative reviews here. We LOVED this place and look very much forward to a future visit. Sure, there is a sign about "no camping or picnics", but I can imagine there was a reason for this: the park is so very beautiful and inviting, who wouldn't be tempted to go into town, buy a few goodies, and spread them out on a blanket under a tree? But this is a hotel, and in our view, exceptionally reasonably priced for what you get: a beautifully recently renovated very large room, French doors going out onto a balcony looking over Lake Geneva, an inviting pool in a park, and about the most splendid breakfast buffet we've ever had the pleasure of experiencing, on a terrace looking out over the lake. The owners work very hard to keep this place in tip-top shape and the food fresh and of best quality. We found them to be very friendly, if you made the little effort it took to start a conversation with them. So who cares if you have to pay E3.60 for a drink out of the minibar? This price is normal, and I find criticism of this petty. I'm pretty sure the owners wouldn't be angry if someone brought in a liter of Evian water they bought in town. But the tap water is perfectly fine, too. The beds are exceptionally large, very comfortable, with plenty of good pillows and various coverings to choose from. We appreciated, too, having the toilet separate from the bath, which is also large, light and airy. The area is very quiet on the weekends. On weekdays there is quite some traffic from commuters going down early in the morning to catch the boat to Lausanne, so just have your earplugs ready. Later in the morning it gets very...
Read moreThe hotel is high up over looking Lake Geneva, you can walk into town, but it is a steep hill down and back. To enter the car park at the hotel, you need a code to open the gate and this is the way in if you are out after 9pm, as the hotel shuts at this time. ||||We were in the annexe at the back of the hotel, room was big, with a fridge and a small outside seating area. The pool isn't heated, but after a hot walk back up the hill, the coolness was welcomed. Breakfast was served on the terrace and there were plenty of choice, with the usual European breakfast, on our second morning due to a cloudy start we were in the dining room, which was a pity.||||Our room was cleaned just after breakfast, so we sat outside while it was done. There are notices around and in the room that all food and drink are not allowed to be brought into the hotel from outside. There is no restaurant for a meal in the evening and the bar closes as the hotel does at 9pm. We were the only ones sat outside on the terrace with a glass of wine, which is a pity, as the view over the lake is lovely with the sun going down. ||||The hotel has been in the same family since 1935 (if I've remembered the year right), it's a hotel I would use again, as the current owners are informative and friendly and the...
