We stayed here for one night and I really wish I hadn't. The only good thing about this one night stay was the location which is right across from the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof. The hotel was literally a construction site. The lobby was in disarray. The staff was operating on temporary tables. The credit card system didn't work. The only elevator was a mess due to it being used by guests and construction workers. While our room must've been recently renovated, the TV did not work. The shower fixtures were loose and it was difficult to get a good shower. Due to the construction, the noise started at 7am and could be heard into the early evening. Each of the floors was under some kind of construction. The stairwells had ladders and each floor had some furniture in all kinds of partial assembly/disassembly. Everything was a mess.||With a hotel under this much renovation, guests should not be allowed to book the room. No amount of money is worth staying in the middle of a construction zone; even for one night. Given the conditions, the room rate should be significantly less than regular rates. In my opinion, given the conditions, the room rate should have been voluntarily refunded. The renovations were not disclosed during the booking process. Even though our room was renovated, doors were sticking and not closing/opening easily. You were given an actual key to unlock the room attached to a heavy brass/iron pendant that probably weighed half a pound.||While my reservation was prepaid, I was asked to pay some kind of hotel tax; also not disclosed. Since the credit card machine was not working, luckily I had a few Euoros to pay for it. No receipt was offered. No check-out statement was offered. If I was staying more than one night, I would have asked to be booked to another hotel.||I did check out the breakfast buffet but it was very lackluster. Nothing hot except for boiled eggs. Everything else was bread, cold cuts, cheese, cereal, etc. ||I feel I am owed a refund given the circumstances of the stay. In its current condition, this hotel should not be making any rooms available for use. I'll end this review on a positive note; at least the WiFi was...
Read moreThe best times of this hotel date back to the early years of the last century, somewhere between the two world wars. It could have stayed that way and been maintained, but it would have been great in terms of cleanliness, but unfortunately it didn't work out that way. The hotel has probably renewed the elevator and added TV antenna cables, visually you can see additional electrical wires so that it would be possible to use electrical devices somewhere. And that's it! Everything else in this hotel has seen the ups and downs of the last century. The room I was using could fit a bed and my suitcase, unfortunately there wasn't much space left for me, but I was able to use the suitcase as a staircase in this room and I had to use the bed for all other purposes. Don't bother dragging yourself for breakfast, just go out of the hotel and right across the road is the Hamburg Central Railway Station where you can find everything, from delicious Starbucks coffee to a classic English breakfast, the hotel breakfast is a complete zero! But if I have to praise the hotel, it is of course the professional and friendly reception staff and the hotel's location. I stayed at the hotel for two nights and survived, you too if you want to experience something already forgotten. I saw and experienced a lot of forgotten old things - with a real key and a heavy copper key holder, a shower with hot and cold taps, without a mixer, etc., etc. But most importantly, I had good memories despite many...
Read moreFirst of all, the location of this hotel - opposite the main train station - was really good and super convenient. There are lots of eateries and shops nearby (many of which are in the train station concourse).||The staff were friendly, though we did have issues on checking in with a member of staff who I believe was new and didn't seem to know the procedure for renting us the safe. But after he made a call to someone, we got it sorted in the end.||Breakfast was a typical continental - fine, but nothing special. ||The hotel itself is very old-fashioned, all classical fixtures, etc, which is lovely. However this also extended to our room's door, which didn't seem to fit particularly well in its door frame and as such let in light and noise, and didn't feel terribly secure.||The room itself was fine, not terribly big but enough for what we needed, and clean. The only downside was the cleaner continually letting herself in despite us having the 'do not disturb' sign on the door, and early enough in the day we were still getting ready to go out for the day! ||Overall, a fine place to stay. If you're just looking for somewhere clean and comfortable to sleep and shower while you're exploring the city, this will...
