I don't know where to start ~ We traveled from United States to Heidelberg to drop our son off for a language institute and after that he will attend Heidelberg University. On our way from Stuttgart to Heidelberg we left our son's main luggage on the train and it was on a Friday. That bag had our child's life in it. 900 euro, 12 months of needed medication, all his documents from medical to school info. We were lost. We tried everything to get help but the language barrier was tough. My child knew some German but not enough to get us help. After a couple days of searching for this bag through the lost and found with the train station we asked the owner, Heint, if he could help us. He did not hesitate and said he had the right staffer, Betima, to get the job done. They got busy calling and informed us the lost and found was closed till Monday which was the next day. Then they hit it again and made sure they knew there were medication in his bag that he needed. By Tuesday afternoon we had our bag back with EVERYTHING still in it. I have no doubt that if we wouldn't have asked the Hotel for help we would still be looking for that bag. The wonderful people at Regina went beyond their duty and services to help us and we so appreciated it. The Hotel stay was awesome too. The room was clean and plenty of space. Beautiful old historic building set in the center of everything you would every need. A hop and skip to the old Town with the castle, food, and stores.
Birgit, the other owner, makes the breakfast that is very delicious. There was such a variety every morning.
I can't say enough about this group of people. They took a bad situation and helped us enjoy the rest of our visit. We will be back to visit and the only Hotel we will stay at will be...
Read moreWe arrived early and were just planning to ask if we could leave our bags early as we had to drop off our rental care before check in but to our surprise we were told a room was ready and we could check in! The start of a very nice stay. Bonus: we got to meet their dog who is adorable! The room and bathroom were both a good size. There was an armoire to hang clothes as well as a coat rack and small bench near the door. The room had a desk if needed as well. My favorite was the towel warmer in the bathroom! It was also a really good size so we were able to hand wash some of our laundry and leave it to dry which was great. Being able to open the windows for some fresh air was also great as the weather was really great for December. The breakfast had a good selection and the woman who works in the breakfast room was very friendly. There are only a few tables so that could be an issue if too many people head down at the same time, we didn’t run into that issue during our stay though. Now to probably the best part: the location!! Within walking distance to Bismarckplatz for bus & tram use and right at the end of Hauptstraße. We were in town for Christmas Markets and some sightseeing and it was such a great location. It was so nice being able to walk back and forth with ease between activities or even just to run back if we forgot something. We were incredibly happy with our stay and would 100% choose Hotel Regina again when visiting Heidelberg. With that being said if you are someone looking for a trendy hotel with a huge flatscreen this isn’t the stay for you, but I find that a great staff and location are much more valuable more often than not. We did not need parking but if you do have a car the street parking looked a bit tight...
Read moreHaving just flown in from America, my parents and I were struggling to find accommodations for 3 people in the old city on short notice. Hotel Regina was the Godsend which took us in. The delightful front desk receptionist set us up with an extremely affordable double room (more of a suite) as well as a single room—both of which were stunningly clean and quiet. The hotel itself possesses a perfect blend of modern and traditional decor/features. Nostalgic neo-luddite that I am, I especially appreciated the hotel’s maintenance of physical keys and locks, rather than digitized key cards. They also have their own parking lot for €10 euro per night. (Our jet-lagged brains missed the lot on the first pass, so the receptionist exited the building to guide us there; as you can well see, they provide superb customer service.) A truly edifying German breakfast (for only another €10 each!) in a cozy breakfast nook ended our stay.
I see some picky reviews here. It is true that the shower does suffer from an inverse relationship between pressure and temperature. However, as my plumbing at home has similar issues, such a small thing did not bother me; perfection is impossible this side of the grave. If such things perturb you, there are always predictable and unimaginative corporate chains. (I will note what others have: the mattresses might not work for someone with back problems. This is a legitimate criticism, but it didn’t phase me in the least. I slept like the dead for nine hours in perfect darkness, silence, and comfort.) I unambiguously recommend Hotel Regina to...
