This hotel’s proximity to the main station in Leipzig and the friendly staff are the only positive’s we took away with us from our stay. It’s possible that there are renovations underway, since I read here about some fancy glass bathroom partitions, of which there wasn’t so much as a hint in our very dated, budget-youth-hostel-style room. The furnishings in our accommodation had already seen better days 10 years ago. While they might have been the epitome of four-star comfort when installed in the 90s / early 2000s, now they look cheap and worn. The mattresses felt tired and, far from the crisp white linens you might expect from a four-star hotel, the bed linens were a grey poly-blend jersey material, even the pillow cases, which was especially unpleasant in summer and contributed to the youth hostel dorm room atmosphere. The bed sheets were stained, which made us suspicious of what stains the navy-blue towels were hiding: what four-star hotel doesn’t have nice white towels? One of the bed sheets had a toe-nail clipping stuck to it. Cleanliness obviously isn’t a top priority: the kettle was still half-full (hopefully with water) and the stirring stick provided had obviously been used and was covered in an unidentifiable brown sticky residue. The hairdryer worked for 20-30 seconds before needing a break and switching itself off, only to switch itself on again randomly 4-5 minutes later. The water pressure in the shower was something akin to gravity and the temperature control was temperamental, strangely with the hot water coming out of the centre of the shower head and the cold water holding its ground around the perimeter. Because the water pressure was so low, you have to stand directly under the shower head to have any chance of rinsing off and this was barely possible, since the shower is in a narrow-ended bathtub with a standing area that is less than 30 cm directly under the shower. Oh, and the tissue dispenser fell off the wall under the pressure of a single tissue being pulled from it.|I will say that, aside from the fire alarm going off at 8 am, we experienced few noise problems. Parking at €8 a day across the road was convenient.|Bottom line: we had expected an awful lot more from Best Western and were sorely disappointed. This hotel is as far from a four-star establishment as the grubby guesthouse you stayed in on a fifth-year school trip to...
Read morethis is not a review according the rooms or the hotel itself, but according the staff - most precisely one member of the staff. i was too tired to remember his name, but here is my experience: on Saturday evening i went to the hotel with my husband in order to book a room after seeing online that there are still rooms available for the night. we were also very tired and stressed because of missing our connecting train due to the DB strike. all we wanted was a nice room to sleep. even though I was given a much higher price than the one on the Internet, i got my money out in order to pay, but the man at the reception was so unfriendly and disrespectful. i decided to let it slide, since all i wanted was to rest, but the guy was so obnoxiously rude and demanded another passport. mine is legal and available, as i am an EU citizen and as i travel so much I have never encountered such issue. he continued to disrespect us to the point where we decided to leave, to which he replied "better so". i am also fluent in German and I have never encountered such situations in Germany or any other countries I have visited before. needless to say we did find a nicer place afterwards where we were indeed treated with respect and felt welcome. i don't want to say that the hotel is not in order, perfectly situated, just a few hundred meters away from the central station and probably the rooms are just as nice, but since the staff was so unfriendly and made us feel like our money are not needed there, we've decided to spend it somewhere else, where it felt like it...
Read moreI was on 6th floor and room was modern, clean and very comfortable. Water pressure and bathroom was excellent! Breakfast was high quality and variety and all staff were competent and friendly. I have no idea where the negative reviews come from. Did we stay in different hotels?|I stayed for 3 nights. |Another good part of location is that Hauptbahnoff/train station has a full mall on two basement floors. Great food, shopping at Aldi, I bought some stationary. When was the last time you saw a stationary shop??|A/C was funny. They set it for 21, and when I arrived I dialed it down to 18. Second day it was too cold, so I dialed it back up to 20. It was slow and took hours to reach equilibrium. Fan control seemed like it was connected to nothing, ha-ha. |Only downside is room was small by American standards. I was out each day, so I didn't notice. No dresser, and just one small chair to sit. I did use desk a lot, and plugs were there for charging electronics.|I will definitely stay...
