My wife and I are just completing ten days here, it’s our first time in Plakias and we have been very pleased with both the town and the Hotel. We had a standard studio which was plenty big enough for the two of us, bigger rooms and apartments are available here if required. We booked direct with the hotel, so all the money goes into the local economy and not to somebody like Booking.com and we didn’t pay anymore by doing this. Communication with the hotel was good at all times. ||Our studio had a wardrobe with two drawers, two bedside cabinets, a dressing table, stool, stand for a case, collapsible bed (which doubled as a seat) and a double bed with lovely comfortable mattress and topper. The small kitchen area had everything we needed, fridge, two ring hob, kettle, sandwhich maker, cutlery, plates and so forth.||First thing we noticed was how clean the room was, even the sandwhich toaster, which had seen some use, was clean and not covered in grease or the remains of previous meals as we have seen in other places. There is air conditioning in the rooms and fly screeens at the window and balcony doors, which is fantastic and not that common. There is a small safe in the room but it’s not big enough to hold a tablet or laptop which is a shame. The same standard of cleanliness was evident everywhere else to, including the pool and gardens. Our room was serviced every day with fresh bedding and towels every three days. The bathroom actually has a shower cubicle an improvement over the usual wet room approach. However the inclusion of the cubicle does make the space for the toilet a bit cramped but even as a big guy and can live with that.||There are plenty of sun beds around the pool and areas with tables where you can sit in shade if you want. The hotel offers breakfast, €6 per person but you need to let them know the day before if you are wanting breakfast. We didn’t use this service but a few others did and they seemed satisfied with what they received. There is no bar or drink service so you can bring your own food and drink to the pool if you wish. Staff are friendly but you don’t see a great deal of them, though they are around during the day if required. ||Most days we had the pool to ourselves but most of the people we did meet were repeat guest some who had been coming here for many years and we can see why. Set back a short 5 minute walk from the beaches and sea front it’s an area of peace and quiet with little to disturb the calm. There are supermarkets and tavernas within an easy level 5 minute walk as well as a pharmacy and other shops. We had a car and there is plenty of parking both sides of the hotel. The hotel faces roughly south so has full sun on the pool area all day but the building provides a degree of protection from the sometimes strong northerly winds that can be felt in Plakias from time to time. ||There is a small library where you can swop books, there are a few boards games and a selection of beach items left by other residents that you are welcome to borrow. The wife is pretty good but as we had an end room it didn’t quite reach inside although if you stood on the balcony you could just about use it however around the pool the signal was good.||Only suggested improvements I could make would be a bigger safe, to take tablets or laptops, bigger bath towels (for those of us who are a little on the large side) and try to boost the WiFi a little so coverage is good in all rooms but none of this are major and won’t stop us coming back. As for room recommendations, can only comment on the standard studios but here I would go for rooms 1,3 or 5 on the upper floor as they have a shaded balcony where as our room, number 6, has full sun all day and so too hot to eat breakfast on.||As I said this was our first time to Plakias and we loved it. We’ve visited Crete many times but usually the north coast and we were getting rather board with the same old tourist places. Plakias has been a breath of fresh air and revived our interest in Crete. The tavernas long the front are a bit of a disappointment, all serving the same menu with varying degrees of success. However we did find one exception a small Cypriot restaurant by the bridge, Lysseos, which we found to be excellent and well priced too.||We took the Finikas boat trip to Preveli, had drives to Rethymno and Aghia Galini as well as eating up behind Plakias in Mirthios which we would recommend. The two beaches in town are quite different. The one to the east along the front is a fine shingle beach which leads into a sandy bottomed gently shelving seabed. The other to the west seems to be full of large rocks but this is actually large lumps of very old concrete the history of which I haven’t discovered but which makes for some nice snorkelling with a reasonable selection of fish present. Sun bed sets on each are €6 for two beds and a umbrella. There are however plenty of other beaches within a...
Read moreWhat a beautiful, tranquil place! Family owned and run by Manolis, his wife Irene and their children, who all made me feel very welcome. The garden is beautifully kept and the pool is a nice relaxing place to enjoy the sun. The location is perfect being around 100 meters from the seafront where you will find a lovely golden sand beach which is lined with lots of restaurants and shops. ||||I have stayed here 3 times now and I absolutely love it. The 1st time being when I was 4 months pregnant, I stayed for 2 weeks with my husband in a 1st floor superior studio. I enjoyed my stay here so much so that I felt very comfortable to return for a 2nd time on my own with my 6 month old daughter. This time I had a standard studio on the ground floor right next to the pool which suited my situation perfectly with having to have a travel cot and easy access for my pushchair. I returned a 3rd time in May 2018 when my daughter was 18months old and was pleased to be given the same standard studio again. Unfortunately my husband could not make it due to work commitments so my parents decided to join me, they had a 2nd floor 1 bed apartment.||||All of the accommodation types were spotlessly clean, had comfy beds, were very well equipped, and have a lovely balcony with views of the pool and garden. ||||Unfortunately on my last stay I was in such a rush to get to the airport I didn’t have chance to say goodbye. My parents were staying on for another week so they kindly checked out for me. Manolis gave my parents a complimentary bottles of Olive Oil and also gave them one to bring home for me which was a lovely surprise || ||I highly recommend these apartments and hope to return again in the not too distant future. Thank you for a very...
