Literally the only reason I did not give five stars is because of my room. I was in Room 2. It is impossible to sleep in this room (and I suspect the same is true of Rooms 1 and 3) because of the noise coming from the lobby. No one has to even be speaking loudly for it to sound like they’re screaming because of the acoustics. You also hear the phone ring, the printer print, etc. And, for some unknown reason, some alarm beeps for 5 seconds at a time every few minutes beginning at 3am for about a half hour. There is also noise from the harbor, but that didn’t bother me because I felt the windows did a decent job of blocking that out, and it almost became more like white noise. The internal noise was the problem. It meant I was going on 2-3 hours sleep tops my whole trip. I’d try to nap in the day, but things were even louder then (as you would expect). It really put a damper on my trip, sadly.||Now, with that out of the way, let me tell you about the many, many great things about this place. First, the location is amazing. You are right on the harbor, which, yes, comes with some outside noise, but it also means you have a beautiful view of the Aegean Sea and can get anywhere you want in minutes. The street out front is lovely, too. I also always felt safe.||The room was a great size, and the bed was insanely comfortable (which made not being able to sleep while in it even more frustrating). I like a firm bed, so if you don’t, you might feel differently, but I thought it was superb. The bathroom was large and well stocked with supplies. I could also lay my suitcase down and still have plenty of room to maneuver.||The staff are fabulous. They’re all very friendly and extremely helpful. At one point, my charging cable for my phone stopped working the night before an important presentation I had to give, and the gentleman working the front desk lent me his until I could sort something out the next day. That was a huge help!||The breakfast is also very good. Even as a vegan, I was able to find plenty to eat, and I was given coconut milk upon request. If you’re not vegan, you’ll be spoiled for choice.||So, in short, if you can avoid a room on the first floor, I think you will be...
Read moreStayed at this hotel in late September on our return from a stay on the south coast. Great location overlooking the Venetian harbour in the old town. We booked a deluxe room with balcony and sea view, I feel we had one of the smaller versions of this room grade (called Lord) after inspecting the photos on the hotel website. |The room was a little jaded but the bed was large & comfortable, clearly the room has a high occupation rate and it shows. Given that it promotes itself as a 'boutique' hotel we found very few 'boutique' features - maybe the bathrobes help to qualify its 'boutique' status?|Sadly 'boutique' is a very over-used and miss-used word these days, perhaps 'shabby chic' would be a more fitting description. The room had a small coffee machine but only 2 coffee pods and no milk or coffee whitener. The young man who checked us in provided a small jug of fresh milk and was apologetic about the amount of coffee pods supplied adding that it was company policy not to offer more than 2 and added that the hospitality tray would not be refreshed during our 2 day stay - not very 'boutique'! The bathroom desperately needs a refurbishment. Black grouting in the shower base suggests a poor cleaning regime along with mould in the toothbrush beaker (see photo) yuk! Towel rail fell apart when I put the towels on it! (see photo), is this 'boutique'?|Reception desk was manned by staff whose attitudes ranged from not bothered to helpful. On arrival we were lucky to have a helpful young man who carried our heavy suitcase to our first floor room but no help was available on our departure and the person manning reception was unapologetic about this. We knew that the hotel had no lift but expected a porter service as part of the 'boutique' experience - wrong. Breakfast was included in our room rate and served in a nearby building, it was more than adequate offering a good range of hot & cold food. Couldn't help comparing this hotel experience with another Chania hotel (the week before we stayed at the Porto Veneziano hotel) where we enjoyed excellent customer service, a very good clean fresh room and no coffee...
Read moreGlad we booked a taxi from Chania airport to the hotel through the hotel as the night porter met the taxi and walked us to the hotel, about 8 mins from the back road. We are so grateful for this as we wouldn’t have found it so quick and with a lot of luggage. Access from the harbour side is probably easier to find the hotel but further from any road or parking. He then took us to our room and the hotel up the alleyway opposite where breakfast is served and explained everything, excellent service and very friendly. |All the staff have been very friendly and helpful. |View from room and balcony was amazing, right on the harbour, with plenty of good restaurants and cars around. Sound proofing is good too with very little noise coming through at night. |Comfy bed and good air conditioning. |Beach towels available from reception with nearest beach at Nea Chora 20 min walk away and lovely. |Breakfast is served up the alleyway in a sister hotel, not far. Self serving with most things you want fruit, cereals, nuts, yoghurt, honey, toast, cheese, ham, fried eggs, bacon, sausage, various sweet and savoury pastries, Greek specialities ( the stuffed mushrooms were very tasty). We didn’t use the roof terrace as we had our own balcony. |Negatives - We were in Room 7 (only 8) , the wooden shutters do not cover the top of the balcony window and doors therefore letting in the light from sunrise. |For those less mobile or unsteady on your feet, there’s no lift and no handrail on the curved stairs for the upper floors. |But would...
