Indulging in a culinary journey at Tamam in the heart of old town Chania was nothing short of delightful. Our starter, the fried Talagani cheese with a hazelnut crust, was a great combination of flavors - each bite a perfect balance of crispiness and creaminess. The grilled sea bass, adorned with a Mediterranean sauce infused with subtle hints of carrots, turmeric, celery, and dill, elevated the dining experience to new heights. The Boureki, a traditional Cretan pie bursting with the goodness of zucchini, potatoes, and goat cheese, offered a comforting taste of local cuisine. Sitting outside, surrounded by the charming ambiance of old town Chania, only added to the magic of the moment. Truly an unforgettable culinary adventure. As the perfect finale to our lunch at Tamam, we were treated to a complimentary dessert accompanied by a generous serving of raki. This gesture added an extra layer of warmth to our dining experience, leaving us feeling truly appreciated as guests. The dessert, a sweet indulgence crafted with care, was the cherry on top of an already exquisite meal. Paired with the traditional Cretan spirit of raki, it was a fitting end to a memorable journey through flavors and hospitality at Tamam in old town Chania.

Went there on a Saturday evening. Based on all of the reviews I expected the worst. However, me and my partner were seated inside after only 5 minutes of waiting and the staff was really friendly. Ordering was quick and easy. We ordered stuffed vine leaves, bread, moussaka and the goat dish (forgot the name). They told us we'd have to wait a little bit. To my surprise the bread and vine leaves came out quite quickly! The vine leaves came with some zucchini flowers and even though we didn't have to wait long, they were AMAZING. After a small wait the main dishes came out and both of us could not finish the full portion. It was a lot, but it was even more delicious. The goat was extremely tender and delicious. Finally the moussaka was nice, thick, and extremely filling. When they took away the plates we were given a small baklava which was from the taste of it freshly made. The only downside was getting the waiters attention for paying. He kept walking away and not going to our table so that we could pay our bill. While it was stressful, the place was packed and there was a huge line outside so I completely understand. All in all, great food and nice staff would definitely recommend this place to people coming to Chania!

I came here for my birthday because google said it was the best food in Chania but google was wrong! The Greek salad was the worst salad I’ve ever had in my life. No dressing, no olives, so dry—just skip it entirely. Our Moussaka was cold. They must pre make it and heat it up. Wasn’t even hot. The lamb chops were gamy but edible. But I always rate lamb on the gamy-ness so definitely wouldn’t order again. The only thing that was good was the beef stew in tomato sauce. And the free olive dip. On top of the food being a huge disappointment it was my birthday and the waiter was beyond rude to me. Said I was lying about my birthday. Brought the worst dry dessert out with no candle. I asked for a candle and he told me he didn’t have one. I just wanted to make a wish on my special day. Treating me like I was an annoyance ON MY BIRTHDAY when I was nothing but excited and polite and kind to him and spending money. My friend asked another waiter if they had a candle and he was so nice and said “we always give candles” and was so polite, so the first guy lied. He brought me to tears and made my birthday experience awful. Not to mention it was the most expensive dinner we’ve had in all of Greece. 5€ gyros were better than this place. Then the rude waiter had the audacity to ask for our instagram or what’s app. I couldn’t even look at him. I hate to leave negative reviews. I mainly only leave positive but the owner should know. Absolutely horrible experience. Thank you to the nice waiter who brought me a candle.

The good- a short walk from our hotel we had such high expectations after reading the reviews. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The waiters are friendly and the prices are mid range. They gave us 3 tiny baklava like desserts at the end that tasted decent. The bad- the food, ugh the food was not tasty. In fact, it was quite mediocre. We ordered the imam bayeldi (a Turkish eggplant dish and although it turned out to be the best thing we ordered, it wasn’t authentic). The zucchini fritters were awful. They tasted almost burnt on the outside and not cooked on the inside. My 80 year old mother’s fritters are to die for.. theirs belonged in the trash. We also got the smoked aubergine dip and it had walnuts in it.. really?? Why?? Again not authentic and not tasty at all. We also got the grape leaves and they were average. I’ve definitely had much much better. We sat inside and if you are claustrophobic you want to avoid doing that. If felt like you are in a cave. You could barely move. I don’t want to even think what would happen if there was a fire. If you are after some good tasting authentic Greek food then this isn’t the place you want to dine at. Nothing wrong with their service.. just their food sucked. We walked away feeling like we overpaid for mediocre food :(

My experience here was lukewarm unfortunately. The place seems packed all the time and I recommend reserving in advance if you want to try it. The mixed mushroom filos were nice and adding nuts inside for crunch was a good idea according to my partner who liked it a lot more than me. The olive pate they give along with the breads is delicious. The fried potatoes with dried cheese on top was disappointing-it lacked any flavour or imagination, it was just french fries. I've had such good roast/fried potatoes in crete (chania, rethymnon , herklion) but this was the only one I haven't enjoyed so far. The tomatokeftades here was again the least favourite of all the tomato fritters I've had in the last 10 days in Greece. It lacked salt, and they could have given some dip to go with it to add more dimensions to that dish. Vibe/ambience wise I think it's nice especially if you sit outside or in the old part. However, because it's such a super busy place I found it difficult to take help from the staff in terms of order suggestions and they seemed fairly in rush which was a downside for me.
