Palazzo Duca — Hotel in Municipality of Chania

Travelling with a friend and both being over 70 we found the staff very caring and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, including the staff helping with our suitcases to our waiting taxi. We had a lovely room with a balcony that overlooked the harbour. The room was cleaned every day by a friendly girl who even created swans with our towels! The position is perfect close to the harbour and within easy reach of the beautiful little shops that sell many hand made crafts, jewellery and clothes. If you love historical buildings you will love Chania. Chania is also a ‘foodies’ heaven with many excellent restaurants serving both local Creten and Greek dishes. Breakfast was always a pleasure in the taverna next door where the food was excellent. I have travelled to many countries all over the world but I can honestly say that I have never met such friendly welcoming people as we met in Chania. The Palazzo del Duca Hotel combines the classical architecture of the old town of Chania. In the old Venetian town and the Venetian port of Chania, raised reasserting his Venetian palace “Palazzo del Duca”, the building designed by the Ministry of Culture as a historic monument paramount. The story begins in the early Byzantine period as a pottery workshop. At Venetian converted into luxurious residence of the Duke of town. We reserved a room here via booking[.]com. When we talked to them on the phone we were told that if we’d cancel our booking and reserve with them directly we’d get a 10% discount. We were hesitant at first but then we foolishly thought “why not?”, we canceled on booking[.]com (while on the phone with their personnel) and they confirmed (twice) our reservation.

A few days later (and 3 days before our arrival) someone else called us from the hotel to say that we cannot have our room as someone else booked it on booking[.]com (they didn’t remove it from the platform when they reserved it for us on the phone). The worst part is that they didn’t seem to care nor to recognize that it’s their mistake and try to correct it. Or at least be apologetic.
