Melani Apartments — Hotel in Municipality of Chania

My Husband and I had booked Melani Apartments in Nea Chora for our wedding anniversary, hoping to make some special memories, but sadly it turned into one of the most upsetting travel experiences I’ve ever had. The reality was nothing like what had been advertised. Even though we had emails and photos confirming the room we had reserved, we were put in a dark, dated room that felt uncomfortable and impossible to stay in. Walking through the building only added to the unease, with hallways and stairwells cluttered with stored items that felt unsafe and even dangerous in the event of a fire.

When we explained that we couldn’t stay and would have to leave, the owner responded with a flippant, mocking “good luck finding somewhere else.” On what should have been such a happy trip, that dismissive attitude felt incredibly hurtful and left me close to tears. Thankfully, we did manage to find another place, but the stress and upset cast a shadow over what should have been a beautiful occasion.

What hurt most was the dishonesty. We were even told that the same photos are used for all rooms, so you never really know what you’re booking. That lack of care, honesty, and basic respect left me feeling completely let down. I could never recommend this property to anyone looking for comfort, safety, or a place where special moments...

Despite emails (with photos) confirming our booking of a specific room, we were forced into a dark, dingy room that was completely unusable. The hall and stairwell were cluttered with stored items, creating a serious fire hazard. When we told the owner we could not stay and would have to leave, they mocked us, flippantly saying “good luck finding somewhere else.” Fortunately, we managed to secure another place, but the whole experience was very upsetting.

The owner/staff also informed us that they use the same pictures for all rooms on their website, so you cannot confirm what you will actually get. Do not trust that the pictures reflect the room you think you are booking.
