Gouves Sunset Apartments — Hotel in Municipality of Chersonissos

Great location – the sea is just a few steps away, shop right next door, plenty of tavernas around, and a beautiful beach at the Marina Hotel only 5 minutes on foot. We had a ground floor apartment with two terraces – one with a pool and sea view, the other with a little garden at the back. Beds were comfy, towels and sheets fresh and clean, and the apartment had everything we needed. These are not fancy hotel-style rooms – there’s a bit of Greek chaos here and there, but honestly, that’s the charm of Crete. If you’re after luxury perfection, this isn’t the place. But if you want a real Greek vibe, you’ll absolutely love it. What makes it truly special is the host, Minas. He treats you like an old friend from the first day – bringing coffee, sharing ouzo, chatting about life. Sometimes his friends drop by too, adding even more warmth and authenticity. The apartment looks nice at first glance and has potential. But it was dirty on arrival — greasy stove, stained sheets, moldy dishes, used sponge, broken furniture, leaking shower, and dirty pool. Walls need refreshing, light switches barely worked.

The worst part? The host didn’t even apologize. He said it was “normal” and offered €25 for all the issues — because “that’s what a cleaner gets.” I had to clean everything myself just to make the place livable. He told me to “write whatever I want” and clearly didn’t care about guest experience.

Absolutely amazing place, it has everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The hosts are the most pleasant and welcoming people on the entire Crete. The apartments have the sea view and the sea itself is within 1 minute by walk. Very cosy area with tavernas, bars, restaurants, shops and ATM are right nearby.
