The Pollis is in a great location, 5 minutes walk from the beach, set back enough to avoid the crowds and noise of the numerous bars and restaurants along there, and close to a supermarket on the main street which is where some excursions pick up from. Our room had a balcony on the opposite side from the pool, facing into a residential street, with a mountain view to one side. ||The hotel was kept spotless, no overly enthusiastic cleaners banging around at 7am like some previous reviews. A sign hung on the outside of your room door lets them know you WANT the room cleaning.||The room itself was modern, spotless and the air con worked wonderfully. The beds and pillows are the most comfortable we've ever had on holiday and the bathroom was a great size. Fridge in the room was great and should you want extra water for overnight you can request it from the bar. ||For public areas there is a choice of the terrace out front, the bar, the pool terrace or the large paved terrace adjacent to the pool shower. Plenty of space and a variety of types of seating (sofas, rattan, plastic - all comfy) and lounging (long and teardrop bean bag longers, plus traditional pool style ones on the large paved terrace - and even a couple of hammocks). ||The pool gets the sun all morning. When we arrived at 1400 it was a lovely temperature to be refreshing and spend some time in. I did find the floor tiles in both the main pool and the lower of the other two baby pools (where I sat on the wall with my feet in the water to refresh them several times) very slippery. Unlike previous reviews exclaiming that they vanished beneath the water, the depth of them is nowhere near the depth the signs say. I am just over 165cm tall and the shallow end was barely to my hip, (sign saying 1m deep) and the deep end wasn't over my shoulders, let alone my head (sign saying 180cm). The change in depth is quite sudden but you can clearly see it.||The staff are all friendly and polite, we found them absolutely lovely! The cleaners do a fantastic job and everyone is helpful and efficient. ||We were there on an all inclusive basis. All inclusive drinks are beer, wine, ouzo and raki. All their other alcohol is brand name, which you are never going to have included for the price you pay here. Most soft drinks were also all inclusive, although I did hear one of the bartenders advise that the freshly squeezed oj was payable - although there was a machine in the restaurant with several juices from concentrate which were included.||Food was fresh and plentiful with plenty of choice for all meals. If you have an excursion which means you will miss a meal, they will also pack a lunch for you, just request it the day before and they will have it ready for your requested time. There was a variety of fresh fruit and salads, a variety of proteins, a variety of carbs, cold meats and cheeses, pancakes, desserts and cakes - and the freshly cooked pizza and garlic bread done in their in restaurant pizza oven was popular with everybody, regardless of age or nationality.||All in all we have absolutely no complaints about any aspect of our stay and will definitely book here again. We were originally supposed to stay in the Heronissos down the road but they became unavailable and we were moved here - we were very glad they did! If you're after a budget all inclusive and are a beer or wine drinker then you really...
Read moreWhat's good : Pollis Hotel is a pretty nice place. We can feel the buildings are only a few years old. Good materials quality were used for the structure and rooms. Pictures are accurate. Good room cleaning service. This was the good part and was accurate from what we could read and see when we made our reservation.
What's not good : - Despite a lot of comments we could read here, the restaurant is only average. The variety and quality of the food is pretty poor. Fruits and vegetables are not that fresh. Desserts are still frozen. Coffee machine delivers something that contains way too much water. Fruit juices don't contain any fruit (just sugar and aroma). Main dishes are pretty often not heated enough (and a bit too salty)... Though we have to make a special mention to morning omelettes, home-made pizzas and the main dish next to the pizzas that was changing from day to day. If our perception is different from a lot of comments here it maybe because Russians are the most numerous customers. It seems their standard are lower than average western Europeans. Speaking of Russians, COVID 19 doesn't exists for them and has they represent the major part of customers, I guess the hotel accustomed to this. No one is wearing masks, no safety distance, no nothing, except gloves for the restaurant. The only use of the ridiculous swimming-pool is to let mosquitos reproduce (so much mosquitos in the rooms while there are none when you visit other spots in Crete). Rooms are quite dark. Staff at the welcome desk don't say hello and don't seem to acknowledge your existence unless you specifically need them for something. Don't get me wrong, they are not rude but it surprised us having people around so indifferent but maybe it also has to do with Russians people who behave quite differently from western Europeans.
To conclude, we weren't satisfied by this place for the price we paid (if it was a lower price we wouldn't have been so judging). Yes, the buildings are pretty new but we would have happily trade this aspect for better food quality and service.
PS : In our opinion all inclusive is absolutely unnecessary as you can eat outside for very cheap and...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel from 29.05.2025 to 05.06.2025. The only good thing about the hotel is the rooms. They are clean and with relatively new furniture. Everything else does not meet the requirements for 4 stars in any way. The three buildings of the hotel are located on a very noisy street. The one opposite the entrance to the main building is in a terrible location. The municipal trucks start collecting garbage even before 06:00. The tourists who are at this hour of the hotel are literally separated from the street by only one wooden door. We had the feeling that we were literally sleeping on the street. The buses that bring or pick up tourists from all the hotels around start circulating as early as 05:30. This intense traffic did not give us the opportunity to sleep after 05:30. If you decide to take a morning shower to freshen up and wash the sweat off your body after a night's sleep, you will have to do it with cold water. For the simple reason that the water heaters that heat the water are only solar. This part of the hotel does not have water heaters that are powered by electricity. The food at breakfast during our stay at the hotel, which was 7 days, was absolutely the same every morning. The assortment was extremely limited. For breakfast, you can only take one type of white cheese, Feta, or one type of yellow cheese. The pastries that are offered at breakfast are not made by the hotel. They are delivered once a week by a chain of bakeries on the island of Crete. On the fourth day of our stay, butter disappeared from the assortment and only margarine remained. On some of the mornings, there were no plastic cups in which you could pour water. The hotel pool is currently undergoing renovations, and this activity is creating noise. 40% of the umbrellas were only with their iron structures without the "cap" that provides shade for vacationers. We have been to other places in 4-star hotels. The observations we have from these stays allow us to reasonably say that this hotel is for no more...
