We had a wonderful experience at I Avli tis Pareas! The elderly gentleman who served us was incredibly kind and made our visit special by gifting our children some Crete magnets, which they absolutely loved. The food was simply outstanding – everything from the gyros to the chicken and the zucchini fritters was exquisite, bursting with authentic flavors and perfectly prepared. The ambiance of the restaurant felt more like a cozy bistro, which might not be as fancy as some expect, but the exceptional quality of the food more than made up for it. A lovely couple run , hidden gem behind the seafront next to a car park , looks basic and ‘nothing special’ at first glance but it ended up being the best meal I had in Crete ! Georgia is such a warm host it’s like you’ve arrived at aunties house for lunch… she is trustworthy with recommendations since me and my partner were going to order two fish dishes two meat dishes and she said “look … it’s too much” 😅 The fact is that this tiny place gives generous portions at quarter the price of restaurants 4 mins away on the sea front. This is an absolute hidden gem of a place. Friendly staff and authentic food. We had the special, this was Greek salad & bread, followed by a mixed grill for two with chips/fries, and half a litre of wine for €25. As is tradition in Crete this was followed by complimentary custard pie for dessert and raki. Although the custard pies are available everywhere, this one was the best we tasted and the raki wasn't watered down (it usually is).
