Mare Monte — Hotel in Municipality of Ios

Fantastic place! Be realistic for what you expect for the very affordable price that you paying! I paid €31 for 1 night on June 5th, 2024! What a steal! The location is superb! 5 minute walk from the port, right in front of the very nice shallow and clean beach. The rooms are very spacious and clean. I had a cute little patio facing the hills and beautiful white houses in a distance. The pool is very clean and super refreshing on a hot sunny Greek days! The owner Kateryna was absolutely lovely, very chatty and friendly and happy to help with any recommendations and directions. If I had to point out 2 minor disadvantages, I would say the size of the shower. It’s super tiny, I’m not a big girl, but I could barely move in there, it would definitely be an issue for a tall man or a larger woman. Also the walls are pretty thin, to a point where I could hear my neighbour’s morning alarm :) But in my opinion these are minor inconveniences for the price that you are paying considering the location and amenities you receive :) Kateryna also had lots of cats on the property, they are all very friendly and don’t both guests, however if you have allergy to cats, you should be aware of that. Overall, I really enjoyed my stayed at Mare Monte and would highly recommend it for a cozy spot close to port for a fraction of a price that some other place charge. Enjoy Ios. Don’t miss checking out the theatre on top of the hill overlooking the island and definitely go to Garden of Ios for an unforgettable sunset and dinner! We had the best time at Mare Monte - decent rooms with a lovely balcony overlooking the pool that an amazing place to take a dip and catch the sun when the nearby beach was too windy. Room cleaning every day left the room spotless and was unobtrusive and occurred at convenient times

5 minutes walk from the port on flat ground (so easy to take luggage), and right next to Yalu beach and amazing cafes/restaurants and sunbed locations on one of the most beautiful and non crowded beaches in Ios, despite its convenient location

While the property shows some age, the owners are absolutely on top of everything and provide incredible service - with them even coming within 2 minutes at 1am to fix our lock when the key got stuck - he worked for 1.5hours non stop to fix it while we went for a night out. They were also very nice and said hello/goodbye to us each time but were not overbearing, and happy to give us recommendations

Important to note: all the negative reviews about the owners are from a while ago, but this place was recently acquired in the last few months by a lovely couple

If you love cats this is definitely the place for you, so many cute cats and kittens including Coco, Luna, and Kylie, and the owners are big animal lovers so the cats are clean, happy, and vaccinated - unlike some stray cats on the island that you can’t tell if they’re safe

Overall the best place I could imagine for a week in Ios. If you are solo or a couple, it’s easily the most convenient place while also being beautiful and knowing you are in good...

Although the hotel is a beautiful location , the people who take care of it are disrespectful” and do not respect privacy.One of the hostess entered our room without knocking first while two of us where showering, she also proceeded on entering the other group's room to take pictures of the mess they had made (not damage but their stuff was all over their place) whilst they were sleeping. Furthermore we respected the silent hours given by the rules which stated you need to be quiet from 12-7am. During those hours we were not even at the hotel however they did not believe that we were not the ones making noice . To continue they used slurs towards us telling us to "shut the ** up" , that we are children and to go to our rooms , we are adults and we were responsible and respected the rules.The hotel had no working airco, shower door was broken , we were cussed out for asking beach towels and yelled up for quietly sitting at our porch. Lastly although the description said there was breakfast, the ladies proceeded on telling us it’s not for us even though we already payed for it.Overall a horrible experience I DO NOT recommend this hotel , we have 20 people who would agree with us. There are so many other beautiful hotels with actual decency towards its clients, I brought my friends here as a way to show them the beauties of greece, and they ended up having the worst possible experience.
