Arriving at Kos with no hotel arrangements in advance, I would almost sleep in the street as all the hotels were fully booked. Actually, I did try to make an arrangement but but I somehow booked for 17 OCT instead of 17 SEP - thus, had a huge shock when I found this out at Kosta Palace Hotel’s reception :))) 🤦🏻♀️ :))) Soon later, I remembered that the restaurant (Caravelle) I had been to back in 2011 was nearby. I decided to have something to eat and asked for the help of Caravelle’s owner Mr. İbrahim who kindly took me to Popi where I stayed two nights at a very reasonable rate! Two sisters who are extremely helpful and nice run this small pension. If you are not looking for luxury or too comfortable beds, Popi can be a good alternative for a quick stay. Since it is very close to the port hosting Bodrum arrivals, it’s very convenient for not carrying all the luggage to the center or further away to your hotel. ||But please remember not to expect much; it’s ok just for a cheap, easy stay. If you are sensitive to noise, like me, you will definitely have a hard time there. In my experience, the other customers were too noisy and the owners can not do much with it really. Still, they did warn the guests and try to change my room as well but I was too tired for that. They kept apologizing and I appreciate their kind approach. ||Right as I was checking out, one of the sisters showed me the view at the roof and said they had two very silent rooms up there - which were obviously busy during the time I was there. However, should you plan a budget stay and you just need a room for the luggage plus a few hours of sleep, you may consider trying to catch those two rooms 😉||Hope this helps!||With thanks to...
Read morePopi studios are located on a busy street in Kos town, one block away from the beach. The owners are accommodating, and eager to please. When I visited on April, only one other room was occupied by a young couple. They said they asked for a little bit of salt, but the owners didn't give them any. During my stay, people came and went; nobody else stayed for more than a night. I had the "deluxe" room with sea view, and even that was spartan, with no comfort to be had. The beds are single-size, rock hard. If joined, a gap remains. Everything is cheap and dingy, albeit clean. The balcony faces East, so it gets some sun in the morning. There is non-stop noise from the street (loud mopeds, cars honking at 3:00AM, etc.) and also from the other guests. The tiled corridors amplify sounds, and the paper-thin walls make you hear everything from your neighbor's room. The water doesn't drain well in the shower, so you stand in your -and preceding guests'- filth. These are utilitarian, backpacker rooms; a rusty hot-plate does not a studio make! Although they are in the bottom price range, I don't think they offer a good value out-of-season. Just 3 days before staying at Popi I stayed at Kosta Palace for only $5 more, and that included an excellent breakfast! I fled from Kosta Palace because of the noise. Unfortunately, noise pollution is almost everywhere, and peace&quiet became a...
Read moreNice appartment, with a very nice host Sandy. Simple but very clean room with airconditioning. We had room 14 on the top floor with a huge deck overlooking the ocean, which we shared with the neighbours accros the hall. Everything we needed was there. A small refrigerator, water boiler. You could cook here if you would like that, but there are great restaurants just on the other side of the road, overlooking the ocean. Room was cleaned everyday. Small shower with showercurtain (might be a bit small for large people). We liked...
