Nick the fisherman by Larry 08-08-2019
We were recommended this resto and after reading some reviews we decided to have dinner on one of our last nights in Kos.
We were seated then not seen again for 5 min. Then when we finally seen again we immediately placed our order for wine and appetizers without any help or recommendations from the waiter. Fine no problem... we had told the waiter we wanted to order fish for our main meal but we would first start with our mezze's. We ordered Greek salad, fries, octopus, zucchini cakes, shrimp saganaki and tzatziki. We asked our waiter for lemon to put on our octopus... well that never came. He also never came back to pour our wine, take our dinner order , offer us more water. We sat at the table for over 1 hour without not one person coming to see us or clear our plates or bring us the bill. We literally had to pour our own wine, grab a new clean plate from an empty table and go without a new water bottle our entire dinner
I understand that the restaurant is busy ( got busy, was not when we arrived) but when you fail to take care of a table of two, it shows how the service has deteriorated. The food wasn't bad, but also wasnt spectacular. We travel often and all over the world and usually dont write reviews but now I have time cause I'm waiting for the bill *STILL. We arrived at 8 PM and the 2nd time he came to our table was 945pm. Like over 1hr45m later. At this point we no longer felt like staying or like ordering more food. It's now 10:30 and still havent heen able to flag someone down for the bill 🙄
Not impressed. The service is really bad. The food...
Read moreSadly my experience at Nicks was not a good one. Two night ago we went to the restaurant after being recommended, the be told in a very rude manner we are fully booked it’s September, nevertheless it had been recommended so we decided to book for the following night. We were really looking forward to it. On arrival we were seated and then waited at least 10 minutes before being asked if we would like to order a drink. When we asked for spirits we were told this is a fish restaurant by the owner Larry this made us feel uncomfortable. Whilst ordering I asked what he would recommend and he wasn’t at all helpful. We ordered our food and two of my friends ordered fish soup which arrived in a couple of minutes later and was not very hot. Then the main course came and this was very disappointing, my grouper was in fact red snapper and very over cooked, when mentioned to Larry I had ordered grouper he told me I hadn’t very unprofessional to speak a paying customer like this. My friends meals squid and octupus were both over cooked and too chewy to eat. Only one of my friends had a decent meal which was pasta. Sadly I feel that he does not have time for tourists and is only interested in his locals. My advice to not go there...
Read moreIn a city full of tourist traps and aggressive waiters, I finally found a hidden gem — a psarotaverna serving fresh fish! Greek music playing softly in the background, the scent of the sea, and a perfectly grilled catch of the day — what more could you want from a Greek holiday?
This little restaurant is tucked away just outside the center of Kos, between cocktail bars. I had almost given up hope of finding real fish here, but this place proved me wrong. The waiter will recommend the fresh fish available that day, and you’re served delicious spreads for the bread — everything is full of authentic flavor.
It’s also one of the few places where you can get genuine boiled greens (horta), which were amazing. The fish was simply delicious, and even the beer was local. Pure joy! 🇬🇷🐟
I’ll definitely be back. The only tiny downside: even after such a lovely feast, we didn’t receive a complimentary dessert or a shot of ouzo, which is something we’ve come to expect in Greece. Still, it’s absolutely worth visiting. And it’s not...
