Genuinely sad to say we didn't enjoy our stay here as much as other reviewers seemed to. Firstly, the location is good, right next to a supermarket, and easy access to the bus stop and Lindos village. It makes a good base for the area. The gardens are well kept and really nice views of the mountains, nice pool. On arrival I wouldn't describe our studio room as clean. Dirty floor, ants, blood stains on the pillows, as well as a generally grimy bathroom (rusty shower and towel rails, dirty mirror, drain smell etc). As it was late (around 1am) we briefly cleaned ourselves before sleeping. Air con was €10 a day which we felt was high. We were glad we got the safe too though, as we later noticed the cleaning team left our doors open mid cleaning but had disappeared. The sunbed situation was terrible and also seemed a running joke amongst other guests. There is nowhere near enough beds for the hotel occupancy and people get up to reserve beds from about 6am. By 8-9am every day there would be no beds left at all. The room is cleaned everyday as other reviews say, but just to empty bins. The bed was changed twice in 9 days and towels every other day. Whenever a cleaner swept, this seemed to add dirt from other rooms to ours including debris that encouraged ants in. The shower was probably the worst I've had staying anywhere in Greece. Cramped with a stained shower curtain, smelly drain in the floor that was backing up after shower, shower head unstable and falling on us every use. It was particularly awful for my partner who is tall. If you've never been to Lindos before, be aware it's a walk downhill into the village (~15-20 mins) and then a steep walk back afterwards (shuttle bus to top of hill available in day €1 pp, taxis at night to hotel €5-6). If you like the beach, it's a even further of a walk down (and return) but Pallas Beach is lovely. There is a clearly a crowd that returns every year who enjoy it but this accommodation wasn't for us. It's hard to go against the consensus but we can only be honest that our experience didnt quite match the other great reviews.

First time visiting Rhodes and with the help of Hays travel chose Lindos Athena. On arrival, we were met by the manager and received a warm welcome. Swift check in to our apartment to find it much bigger and better than expected. As we had arrived on a late flight only the pool bar was open until 01.30hrs. The pool opens at 08.00hrs until 20.00hrs. Pool bar/kitchen opened at 09.00 til 12.00hrs for breakfast then the menu changes to light meals and lunches to 20.00hrs. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. As it's self catering, there was a very well stocked supermarket just a few steps outside of Athena entrance/driveway (you will see the supermarket as soon as you arrive at Athena). Thoroughly enjoyed the pool to have a nice swim and cool down and relax. Lindos main centre and beach area is a short walk down hill from Athena. As it was super hot in high 30°c to low 40°c, we got taxis back from the main square to Athena and it was around 5€ (as it was uphill and steep) or 50 cents each to the main road and a nice walk up Krana from there to Athena and took us 5 mins. We had the most wonderful stay at Athena, staff were amazing. The apartment was cleaned every day and fresh towels and bedding too. Athena is set in a beautiful garden setting with a view of the mountains as a backdrop. I can honestly say we will definitely return.

Lindos Athena is a great find for any couple or group looking for a relaxed and chilled day with a lively town a walkable 10 minutes away. Whilst the accommodation would described as basic, probably 2/3 star, the welcome and ongoing services rates a 5. The family run hotel gave a warm welcome and can’t do more to guide, suggest and encourage you to explore more of the Island. The bar area is very sociable, the pool is great for cooling off and they are all surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens. I have been here on a Jet2 package as well as self organised using Booking.com. Day trips to Symi and Marmaris are both possible, local car hire is good value too and the roads away from the coast and up to the mountains are quiet, even during the busy season. If Lindos is Rhodes little treasure then the Athena is definitely its’ hidden treasure! We have booked again for next May.

Stroll into the village get a golf buggy back for €5 ||Main beach is a 15 minute stroll downhill but a ‘hike’ back up - tip use the path at the village end of the beach €15 euro for 2 beds and a parasol ||Air conditioning is €15 euro per night for 2 bed apartment and €10 per night for studios - but is well worth it ||Hotel Athena is fantastic and exactly what we expected and more, the staff cannot do enough for you, Georges cocktails are amazing, Theo always on hand to help, Dino is superb behind the bar and Rakip is brilliant throughout the day - sadly we didn’t get the name of the lady who worked of an evening but she was fantastic - her service was awesome and nothing was too much trouble ||Pool is an ideal size and plenty of Sun loungers available around the pool side if you get up early enough (8:30am) if not there are still enough in the gardens ||Food by the bar is great and well priced as are the drinks ||Great little supermarket next door (literally) with all you need and more ||Bus stop at the end of the road (by the main road) with buses to Rodos (old town) €5.50 per person one way but definitely worth doing ||Bus to Pefkos takes 5 minutes and also worth a look although we preferred Lindos and the village ||No need to book restaurants, just have a wander and pick one that takes your fancy - didn’t have a single bad meal in 10 nights and fantastic wine as well (house wine is great) ||Book this hotel, you won’t be disappointed and it’s clear to see why so many people return year after year ||It’s true you can check out whenever you like but your heart...
