We booked a Deluxe Bungalow Suite with Private Pool for four nights in July and had very high expectations after reading most of the reviews on Google, Tripadvisor and Booking.com. It was a great pleasure of getting to agree with all the positive reviews, this hotel is excellent even though we are very used to staying in five star resorts around the world.

We had a couple of minor issues on arrival - due to some misunderstanding the driver booked through the hotel (but not hotel staff) was not at the airport at the right time and I thought the air conditiniong could have been more efficient after the first night. However we were very pleased with our bungalow, it was exactly as pictured on the hotel’s website and possibly even slightly better (pool bigger etc).

On our first morning on the way to the excellent breakfast we met Athena (hope the spelling is right!), whom I understood to be the customer service manager of the hotel. She had the habit of touring the hotel grounds for about 10 hours each day (even weekends) speaking to guests, finding out if there’s anything to be improved and most importantly acting based on the feedback. This kind of service we had not experienced anywhere else on our journeys. She already knew about the problems with the inbound transportation and promised (and kept it) a reasonable compensation for it and promised a technician would have a look at the air conditioning. Soon we noticed her taking a technician to our bungalow (she seemed to have a habit of joining the technician, probably to make sure the issue is resolved properly) and after that returning to explain to us what the problem was (a fuse). A very good example of how to properly address your guests’ issues (there will almost always be some issues when staying in a hotel, what matters is how they are dealt with).

As mentioned the a’la carte breakfast was of very high quality and the setting next to the sea excellent. We did not have a chance to try the dinner, but most likely it is as good as mentioned in other reviews. The drinks were fabulous, very high quality and reasonably priced with regards the quality. We also liked the snacks etc at the pool, all high quality and quickly delivered.

What was quite special at this hotel was observing all the staff do their work so well - as well as each individual could, not just the minimum effort to get the job done. Something has clearly been done right in recruiting and training the employees and keeping them motivated even though they worked long hours in the busiest season of the year.

The location of the hotel is quite handy, 15 minutes drive from the airport and a similar trip with a car/bus to Rhodes center. Also many restaurants nearby, however as mentioned in many other reviews, the hotel’s restaurant is probably the best in the area.

We will definitely be going back...

Extremely Disappointing Stay – Unsafe, Unhygienic, and Not as Advertised

We booked this hotel nearly a year in advance with high hopes, but our experience has been extremely disappointing and stressful from the moment we arrived.

When we checked in, we were placed in a room directly opposite the staff service cupboard. While the room technically had a window, we were forced to keep the curtain shut at all times for privacy. Throughout the day, we could hear staff coughing, dragging hoovers out, and making noise just outside the door—far from the peaceful holiday setting we expected.

After raising concerns, we were moved, but the situation was handled poorly. The cleaners acted unprofessionally and made us feel uncomfortable when they learned we were unhappy with the original room.

The layout of the hotel itself is also problematic. To reach our room or the main pool, we had to navigate slippery slopes or, unbelievably, climb down a wall. There is no proper accessible route, which is completely unacceptable—especially for my mother, who has mobility challenges.

The room we were moved to had a strong damp smell from the beginning, which we originally thought was from the air conditioning. However, after three days, we discovered visible mould on the wall—right next to the sofa bed prepared for my daughter. When I pulled the bed away from the wall, I found a cockroach behind it. It was both shocking and deeply concerning from a health and hygiene perspective.

The noise levels have been constant and disruptive. At night, we've had extremely loud neighbours knocking on each other’s doors and shouting in the corridors, which makes it nearly impossible to rest.

The gym is another disappointment—most of the equipment is broken or completely unusable, making the facility pointless.

We no longer feel comfortable or safe staying here and are actively seeking to leave early.

To make matters worse, although the hotel agreed to a full refund, they have only attempted to refund €50 so far—and even asked us not to leave a review in return for a full...

We stayed by the pool for a day while waiting for a late flight. We had made a reservation two days prior. We got to store our luggage in their luggage room and they helped us book transfer to the airport.

We where impressed with the calm and very professional service. Even though we only had a day pass (5 euro service fee for sunbeds, then spend money on food and drinks) they treated us as any of their guests. The staff was efficient and pretty much nothing was a problem for them. They were extremely professional!

The pool area is situated right by the ocean. The view was spectacular. The pool was big and clean with no rough play (we loved the fact that children were only allowed until 13!).

The restaurant was beautiful. Particularly our dinner was very, very well cooked. The flavours were balanced and very tasty. They even offered gluten free pasta!! A major plus! I am vegetarian and even though they mostly served meat, sea food and fish, they also had a vegan burger (during lunch) and a mushroom risotto. But, because I had two other mushrooms risottos (at other restaurants) the two nights prior, I really didn't feel like eating one more mushroom risotto. They understood and the chef cooked me a DELICIOUS vegetarian pasta instead, one that wasn't on the menu. The service was perfect. During lunch the staff was equally as professional bit the burgers were a bit over cooked.

I HIGHLY recommend the pool area, the restaurant and everything they have to offer at Villa Di Mare. Just make sure you make a reservation...

FAR BELOW Five-Star Standards: COMPLETE DISSAPPOINTMENT This hotel falls DRASTICALLY short of five-star expectations. The rooms are outdated, with worn furniture and in dire need of renovation (see attached photos). There's a lack of privacy because all rooms are exactly next to walkways where lots of other hotel guests, staff, etc., pass by frequently. The bathrooms are plagued by mold and a persistent sewer-like odor, making them highly unpleasant. Noise levels are excessive, with loud voices, screaming, parties, and disruptive air conditioning units disturbing the peace at night. There’s no assistance with bags whatsoever, leaving guests to manage heavy luggage on their own. Parking is consistently unavailable, adding to the inconvenience. Breakfast service doesn't start until 9 AM, leaving early risers or those with morning tours out of luck. While the ocean is nearby, accessing the water is challenging, particularly for elderly guests, due to the lack of a boardwalk or suitable entry. The hotel's online photos are MISLEADING, falsely portraying a higher standard. Given these significant shortcomings, the cost of booking is unjustifiably high. This property is far from delivering a five-star experience. I strongly advise others to AVOID staying at this hotel.

The perfect holiday! My family and I had the best time ever at Villa di Mare. Everything was just perfect, from the support throughout the booking process to the actual stay. The place is just as beautiful as it looks in the pictures and more. The rooms are spacious and lovely, all the staff are friendly and helpful, and just made our stay even better. The swimming pool is beautiful, and the restaurant / pool bar offers a great selection of snacks, drinks and dishes. Extra value: it's right by the sea, unlike all the other hotels we saw in the area. It's just amazing to go from your room to the sea in a few seconds, then back to the lovely pool. Perfection! The breakfast is absolutely amazing, not the usual buffet, but a great à-la-carte menu with delicious options. We loved trying all their different dishes. We enjoyed this holiday so much we look forward to our next visit! Special thanks to Evangelia and Iannis for being always so helpful, and to all the lovely staff!
