Engaging in open forms and writing reviews tend to be something that I would stay clear of. Still, after my experience with hotel Thireas I feel it would be unfair not to inform anybody that may be considering stopping here.
I landed in Greece, and unfortunately, my baggage did not (which had my bank cards in). I arrived at the hotel at 11.00 pm to where there was no receptionist. After calling the number of the hotel, one hour later, the hotel supervisor came, whereby I filled in the necessary forms which asked for debit or credit card (even though the room had already been paid and funds taken). I explained my misfortune of losing my bag and not having a credit card to give in. The hotel supervisor then refused me entry to saying it would be against the company policy, and said, unfortunately, I would not be able to stop for the evening without my card details.
I explained to the supervisors that this would mean I would sleep out on the street for the night, to which he responded, “I’m sorry to hear that, but it is not my problem.”
Lucky I found a hotel close by ( the Atlantis hotel) that was willing to take me in for the evening sympathy for my situation. The following morning I returned and asked for a refund to be given due to being unable to stop in the hotel. Again the supervisor kept the same blasé attitude to my situation and refused even to refund the nights stay.
If you are still contemplating staying at this hotel that holds no morals or levels of humanity, I would like to illustrate one further reason why not to stop. As mentioned before, at 11.00 pm there was no staff managing the hotel. The hour I spent sat waiting for the supervisor was in an environment that could only be described at a frat party. The hotel was not the tranquil place advertised on its website.
If you choose to stop here, then I hope your experience is more pleasant than mine, but you have...
Read moreDo not stay here. Disappointing stay, completely misleading advertising.
We booked for a few nights recently (July 2022) where we thought we booked a room with a private balcony, as per images provided when booking. This was not the case at all - our room had an outdoor area part of the public pool area, completely not private at all and shared with other guests.
Our room was the style of a basement, where parts of the room were so small we kept hitting our head on the ceiling. No room to move around.
The room had no fresh air unless we open the front door, which opened to the public pool area so we had no privacy. Due to this, we had to use the air con which actually made my partner very sick (constant coughing and chest infection as a result of the air con - no issues on our trip until this point). We requested a fan instead of using air con but John (hotel manager) refused to give us one. My partner was sick due to staying in this room which affected our holiday. Once we checked out, he immediately started to get better which was a sign the room was not suitable for guests to stay in at all.
We kept raising these issues with reception, and they kept saying they would speak to the manager - John. Turns out one of the staff was John, so we had been lied to the whole time that our issues were being raised with someone more senior which did not happen. John was extremely rude, disrespectful, not accomodating at all.
We travelled across the world to stay somewhere we thought would be nice. The only good thing about this hotel was the view of the sunset. Do not stay here if you can, John (supposed hotel manager) lied to our face, was rude, didn’t respect our feedback or needs and...
Read moreThe location of Hotel Thireas is excellent and the view from the balconies is exactly the ones you see in the pictures. We had our breakfast on one of the terraces overlooking the caldera -- it's priceless. And the breakfast itself is plentiful and excellent. ||There is a long sloped and stepped walkway from where your taxi or shuttle will drop you off so if you have wheeled luggage, you will either need to carry it or call reception to have them help you. This is standard for any hotel in Santorini (i.e none of the hotels are directly on the road) so just pack light or use a bag that's easy to carry.||The rooms all have "soundproof" doors which is a necessity given the close proximity between the other rooms within the hotel as well as adjacent buildings. Some people stay out late and come home in a rather loud and careless state so you may still hear them through the doors. Again, this isn't unique to Hotel Thireas. ||The room we stayed in ("Poseidon") is a two bedroom, two bathroom cave room. There are no windows in either of the bedrooms so if you don't like being in confined spaces, factor that in. ||John, the manager, is welcoming and accommodating. He organized our transit to and from the airport as well as a rental car for one of the days we were on the island. All of them were smooth and fairly priced. He also recommended two very good restaurants (Kipos and Kokkalo which were also excellent). ||The only reason it didn't earn a 5 star is that I'm a tough grader and while the accommodations met my expectations, they didn't exceed them to the point of being exceptional. If we return to Santorini, we would certainly...
