It had been several years since I visited Guatemala, and this time I returned with my husband and our seven-year-old son. I searched on TripAdvisor for a centrally located hotel in Antigua, close to historic sites, restaurants, and shops. After narrowing it down to a few options, I looked at the reviews and photos for Mestizo and was sold.||Several weeks before our trip, I connected with Cristofer via WhatsApp, who helped me arrange transportation from Guatemala City to Antigua. He reached out to me multiple times to ensure everything was in order. The day before we were scheduled to check in, we stopped by the hotel to ask if we could drop off our luggage before heading out on a day trip. As soon as I walked in, he greeted me by name and introduced himself as if we were old friends.||The next day, Cristofer was there to collect our luggage, and when we returned from our tour, it had already been delivered to our room. That evening, we enjoyed the lovely rooftop area with complimentary cocktails.||Throughout our stay, Cristofer and the other staff at the front desk were incredibly accommodating and always available to answer our questions.||I can’t comment on the food since breakfast was included but we missed it due to our early tours and flight. The only service I took advantage of was a 90-minute massage in their salon, which cost me only the equivalent of $32 USD.||The room itself was small but beautifully furnished, with a comfortable bed and a blanket that was perfect for the cool nights and mornings. We enjoyed spending some time relaxing in the hammock outside our room during the early afternoon.||As we prepared to leave, I handed Cristofer two postcards to send. When I purchased them, I was told the stamps provided would cover the postage to the U.S., but that turned out not to be the case. Cristofer went above and beyond to cover the cost and ensured my postcards were mailed.||I loved the location, the staff, and this quaint hotel. I would definitely recommend...
Read moreThis is a candid review. Thus, I have to start by commenting on the ventilation situation. I reserved a room on the 1st floor because there weren't any available on the 2nd floor. The room is super nice, has great decor, and is comfortable. However, the window is tiny, and the room doesn't have AC. The AC situation can be challenging if you're like me and dislike warm, humid weather. The front desk sent another small ventilator to the room and moved us to the second-floor room the next day. By then, everything was perfect; the food was fantastic too. During our last night there, my boyfriend got food poisoning after eating dinner, and the pharmacies didn't offer deliveries due to the time. I contacted the front desk, and they quickly put me in contact with the person in charge of the night. Without hesitation, Don Carlos drove to the pharmacy and got the meds. Afterward, I told him that we were expecting a visit from the paramedics since my boyfriend was getting worse. Some time passed, and the paramedics were delayed; Don Carlos offered to call the local firefighters (in Guatemala, they respond to this kind of emergency if possible). We waited some more, and the paramedics finally arrived. After they had left, Don Carlos reached out to see if we needed more meds and offered to go buy them if required. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. The next day, the kitchen staff prepared a light breakfast for my boyfriend and went above and beyond for his comfort. Bottom line, I'm never staying anywhere else in Antigua, despite the small window in the room. The staff cared for us, made sure we were comfortable and pleased, and went to great lengths to keep us happy; I recommend this hotel. The hotel is gorgeous, the food is excellent, and the staff cares about...
Read moreOur stay at Mestizo Antigua was absolutely wonderful. We were an hour from boarding our flight to Guatemala City when I received an email notice saying my booking for our original hotel in Antigua was canceled. We scrambled to find another hotel and it was a blessing that we found Mestizo. It is such a beautiful and clean property, with the best staff offering incredible hospitality. It is in a very central location in Antigua, very close to the Arco de Santa Catalina (4 short blocks). I am the type of person to research for weeks before booking a stay anywhere and I was so nervous going into the unknown with Mestizo but just walking into the property, we were breath-taken. The pictures of the property don’t do it justice. They do not have a pool but the kids had so much fun in the maze-like interior of the hotel. They do have a secondary property about an hour away where you can get day passes to enjoy the pool there. I can’t wait to try it next time! The food (and free breakfast) was excellent, I am only sad that I did not get to eat more meals there. Their chocolate lava cake was amazing and even a simple order of ice cream was elevated to a new level with toasted nuts and other additions. Luis, Evelyn, and Christopher made our stay at Mestizo one of the best hotel experiences ever in all of our travels. Luis is the owner and introduced us to local drinks and foods. He ensured everything went smoothly. I really look forward to our next stay at Mestizo and eating that...
