This is a nice place, a really nice place , the food it's top notch if you like American food , everything it's good , I put this place over Joe's burgers (another place you should visit near la Antigua) , this place condiments their food on a special manner, it's a little expensive , a dinner for 2 could make it to Q.350.00 easy , the size of the portions are not that big, you come to pappy's BBQ for quality not a big plate of whatever , take this in mind, so if you are a big guy and need more than one burguer ir plate... It's going to be expensive to fill that stomach, now... The not so good, some of the tables are not even so everything moves haha and this place gets really hot on the summer because of the kitchen , so if you overheat easy...seat beside a window , believe me gets really hot, and the bathrooms.. they are clean! But they are not what you could expect for a nice place like this and for a place that charges like this on food, their not bad..bit could be better. I make a long review because the food is worth it , the place it's nice... And because of this, last time while I was eating there, two shoeshine boys enter to the restaurant, at least 3 waitress salute them in a real friendly way, then they serve them free ice tea, give them a table, they drink their tea , and then return to work after saying good buy to all the people working there. This...
Read moreAn authentic and delicious Texas style BBQ spot in the heart of Antigua. Pappys menu had everything you could expect and it was cooked with great care and presentation. My friend and I especially enjoyed the brisket (there are two types) and the pulled pork. So much flavor and texture, without all the sauce/seasoning that grillmasters can tend to add. Definitely try the elote corn and the cole slaw with any meats, they complement well.
Pappys premium angus beef is imported from Texas to provide a high-quality and consistent product. I have eaten a lot of brisket in my days, but this is definitely in my Top 3 for quality, and Number One in terms of value. The pork is specially bred in Guatemala from two lineages to create thick and meaty ribs - Pappy’s ribs have a lot more meat than bone which can be the case at other BBQs.
The staff at Pappys was prompt, cordial, and attentive as well. We ended up staying longer than we expected and were fortunate enough to meet the owner. He is very invested in the experience of his Customers and the reflection of a quality Texas BBQ in every aspect. He helped us to sample some local beers and we shared a profound appreciation for the local breweries who are striving to make high quality lagers...
Read moreIt's not Lockhart Texas, but it's really close for being on the "wrong" end of Mexico. The mustard sauce is incredible (especially for a Texas style restaurant) the meats are as good as you'll find in many decent places in San Antonio, and the sides are authentic, especially the beans, which are seriously killer. The decor is correct, the music is country, and until you look at the TV or out the window, you could easily forget you're in Guatemala. It's a nice break from living abroad. My only negative was the portion size on the "big boy plate." It's definitely not a big boy plate, especially for a Texas restaurant. It was disappointing to receive one small slice of brisket, a few bites of pulled pork, and maybe half a sausage. The sides were also small, and you only get one slice of white bread. Very tasty, but really not enough food. I'll have to get pupusas later, and I'm sad about it. Four and a half...
