San Pedro is my favorite place at Lago de Atitlan. An authentic Mayan village that has everything: a volcano to climb (called San Pedro, too), a real local character, including a daily market and plenty of good comedores and street food, great views, plenty of comfortable and inexpensive hotels and hostels, and COFFEE! Want all that under one roof? Stay at Cristalinas Hotel. From large rooms with breath-taking views of the lake and the mountains, to a 5 beds dorm right on the water - you have choices. Prices are low. People who own and run Cristalinas and their staff are wonderful. You will be well taken care of. What else do you want? A kayak? Hay kayak :-)!!!||||Others already wrote poems about Cristalinas onsite restaurant. Let me tell you about the coffee... TRY THEIR COFFEE! You will keep asking for more, and you will take some home, for sure. Perfectly balanced, rich and with good body, yet delicate and nuanced... I asked if I could see the roasting facility, which is literally across the street from the hotel. The Gonzalez family is growing and processing coffee for four generations, using the same, over 100 years old German-made equipment. Nothing here is automated. Papa Gonzalez relies on his olfactory senses, and on his eyes and overall experience when roasting native San Pedro beans from family fincas. The effect is exceptional. Cafe Cristalinas is the pinot noir of coffees!!!||||To illustrate my words, I am including a few pics. You will be taking many of your own here, and uploading them to social networks using Cristalinas strong Wi-Fi signal, as I am doing now. Disfruta de tu experiencia en...

Read moreI got a room here despite it seeming kind of dirty and buggy. I wasn't given a blanket. I had to ask for the wifi where most places give it to you. Worst of all, I'm pretty sure the night security staff stole my flowers. I woke up early to smoke and watch the sunrise and prepared outside of my room as to not disturb my roommates and then stepped out to smoke and then when I came back in my flowers were gone. 👎👎 I don't recommend staying here unless it's your last option. Shared bathrooms. The shower in the room smelled like someone used it as a toilet even though there wasn't a toilet...
