Luxury? Ehhh....not so much. Ok...the good. Paula, the woman that helps run the place was nice. She welcomed us and was available for any questions I had and I had a bunch!. There was hot water and the toilet flushed better than most in Guatemala. The location was PERFECTION... right by Sababa, the lancha dock and Sublime. That being said....they basically put "lipstick on a pig" which means making cosmetic changes to a product in a futile effort to disguise its fundamental failings. Luxury Atitlan boasts a modern chic aesthetic and the pictures have you believe so. That's what initially drew us in! Well...The bed was uncomfortable, the pillows were cheap and thin, I had to double up with my travel pillow. I literally slept 4 hours in that place. My fiance used his sweater jacket for a pillow. They did not have a top sheet on the bed so it was my body under the comforter only. Most places don't wash the comforter so the sheet is a sanitary barrier. The towels and robes were hard, scratchy and stiff. They did not line the trash cans with bags....ewww. There was loud construction on the roof above us which was not disclosed to us before hand and it was LOUD. To add insult to injury they charged us Q15 for a mini coke zero bottle. There should be a sign on the fridge with prices so that guests can make an informed decision to purchase or not. Instead I had to text Paula and ask if the drinks were free or for purchase. I really wanted to like this place after reading the reviews but...I'll pass next time. Aesthetic isn't everything people. We've stayed at old gems throughout our 14 day honeymoon that were 5 stars. They mastered the basics. We are A 40 yr old couple. Maybe this place is better suited for young party people who need instagramable shots of where they are staying and don't care...
Read moreLuxury Atitlan is basically a set of AirBnbs perched on the lakeside of Lake Atitlan in San Pedro La Laguna. The service of Luxury Atitlan is very basic and the people there are very inflexible. We came 15 minutes early of our check in time and they would not let us go into our room and they were very inflexible when we stayed 5 minutes past our allotted time for check out. We had the room Venice which was nice and modern, but the couch smelled heavily of urine which was bothered us a lot, and our room Venice was also right next to the dock where people would wash their clothes which was very awkward and not the view I was expecting but I think this was a specific problem for our room, Venice. Another problem with Luxury Atitlan is that there is loud noise coming from everywhere. San Pedro is a party town and there was loud noise till 2 in the morning and the walls were far from soundproof. There were some perks for Luxury Atitlan as there was a jacuzzi with a wonderful view of Lake Atitlan my favorite experience of this Airbnb/hotel. Overall, while the room of Luxury Atitlan was modern the service was not good and the location was horrendous with loud sounds coming from everywhere. If you can find a hotel in San Pedro that looks good than book that and if you are a light sleeper I would suggest finding a hotel in the next town over San Juan which is less of a party town and only a 8 minute Tuk Tuk or rickshaw(mode of transport in the towns bordering the lakes) drive...
Read moreWe stayed here a month ago and had an awful experience. This place was NOT luxury. Aside from stained sofas and a garden full of broken furniture, the hygiene of the place that we were expected to put up with was awful and the owners were rude and reluctant to help. ||It is falsely advertised as having a private pool. It is a shared pool with 5 apartments/villas with a text booking system if you want to use it. ||We arrived following our volcano trek and there was no hot water or water pressure. The owners didn’t offer solutions so we had to request multiple times to be taken somewhere to shower or said we would leave. The shower did not get fixed for a few days and the owners kept blaming US for not being available to let the plumber in, despite the fact that we were the ones on holiday.||It finally got fixed but then leaked. We had far better showers in the middle of the jungle!||Worst of all, our bin that had to be used to dispose of used toilet paper was not emptied for a week. Again, we were blamed for not being at the apartment to let the cleaners in. We did not have replacement drinking water provided all week, despite requesting it and the drinking water tank being nearly empty when we arrived.||The owners agreed to refund us due to our shocking experience but have since avoided making the refund payment. Do not...
