First time in a hostel for me, travelled with a large group and we had 2 dormitories. When we arrived we went to reception and were met by a really friendly and helpful man who gave us towels, entry cards (5 euro refundable deposit) and all the info we needed. rooms are basic but have lockers, bunk beds, air con, toilet/shower, sink, coffee etc and are clean. Very secure place to leave your belongings, you have the main door which is sometimes left open by other guests but you then have a secure pin entry door and then another door into your room which is card entry, leave your gear in a locker (padlocks available at reception) and all in all you know your gear is safe when you go out. Pretty well located with great shops and plenty of places to eat and drink, public baths very close as is the main railway station, public transport is absolutely brilliant! A long way from the airport but taxis are cheap... be careful when going by taxi and try to work out how many kms you are going then ask them for an approximate price! They go on a meter per km but for example we ordered 3 taxis from the hostel to a sports centre...same distance but taxi 1 was 2,500 HUF taxi 2 was 4,700 HUF taxi 3 was 10,000 HUF. Budapest is a cosmopolitan city with beautiful buildings, a great transport network, and very friendly people. This review is based on it being BUDGET accommodation....it's excellent on that basis, it's not a...
Read moreBudapest. 29.09.17 House Octogon is apartment, we ordered over the Internet. Our first experience, we usually stop at hotels and the difficulties encountered were first proved that the apartments are located in an old House, where erected different premises. With a small signboard and closed doors. The entrance is closed for security lock and log on need, you need to know him. Good thing we arrived not at night, were able to reach employees, because the code no one bothered to tell us. With great difficulty, we caught up with the workers of this House and were able to enter. Then, was very unfriendly reception and conversation. We were shown a room on the 4th floor without an elevator. We deeply mature couple, after an early flight, had to clamber on the 4th floor. We are not satisfied. But the rooms were just wonderful. We liked the clean, bright, comfortable. We were able to agree with the staff we have provided other apartments, without the steep stairs. We agreed and left. Our rest, thanks to this, simply failed. Wonderful rooms with beautiful Hall and new kitchen, we liked and very. All of this is in an old House and it is especially pleasant that such cozy apartments, located in the Centre of Budapest and everything is within...
Read morePros are location and A/C in rooms. Cons: no lift and a hell of a lot of stairs, the condition of the apartment isn't great (paint and skirting boards coming off, pipes coming out of walls, one shower had no door!) and the floors weren't clean (my feet turned black after walking for a few minutes), broken window, the towels were clean but had marks and we had to ask for more. But the biggest negative is how unfriendly and even aggressive the Manager is, even just upon arrival. They're all about asking for extra money. We had a big argument around putting decorations up for a hen party (which one of their staff saw us doing and said how good it looked) with no damage whatsoever and they tried to charge us 200 euros for non-existent holes! The Manager was inviting herself in without knocking the door to ask us for money and even insulted one of us. Would not recommend the place at all and some of the reviews definitely aren't fair (actually their average rating isn't great anyway). She was saying she charged other groups for damage which they clearly never bothered repairing. Stay off this place if you don't want to spoil your...
