The management and how they treat customers and resolve problematic situations is not acceptable for today's standards.
Upon arrival we have been informed about the fee for each pet which was double to what we were initially told- after arguing we have been given the previously quoted price huf 5000 per/night - maybe a mistake we were not too worried about.
Later during the stay we have been informed that due to planned maintenance someone would need to check the room which we had no problem with. However this maintenance appeared to be police like room inspection where a lady started taking pictures of what they thought was damaged by us/pets including normal wear and tear, dust, stains etc (is this a museum?). - This is not a way to handle such stuff, we should have been told that they noticed some damage and wanted to check with us rather than hiding behind a fake maintenance routine - we felt really badly treated and lost the sense of any comfort after that.
On the departure date we were told that the fee for the damage would be eur 300 which we disagreed with as the only real damage were the curtains - the cat. I wanted to speak to the manager but apparently this was not possible, after not accepting the 300 eur the fee was dropped to 200 eur to which we asked for a proof that the curtains did cost that much - this was not provided. Finally the claim was yet again reduced to eur 130 which was acceptable (even though unfair) and we’ve paid.
We have no problem covering the damage but this was simply a rip off attempt. Moreover we have paid approx 300 eur for the pet’s stay so I would think any minor damage should be covered by this amount - given it’s a pet (cat) friendly hotel.
We feel the lack of clear communication and the way this was done is not really acceptable and would not recommend this hotel to people that travel with pets. The treatment left us with a bitter taste which could have easily been avoided had the situation been handled properly - openly.
We have traveled with pets for nearly 10 years and have never experienced such a...
Read moreSpent 4 nights here with a group of 7 people in 3 rooms over the New Year period. The hotel is perfectly located in the main tourist part of Pécs, in walking distance to many of the main attractions. The hotel is a grand old building with the exterior, public areas, reception, restaurant, ballroom, etc stunningly and carefully restored to a very high standard. You really get a sense of occasion and grandeur walking into any of these areas. Unfortunately the rooms were disappointing. We had a 2 room Apartment and a seperate room for 3 adults. Our hosts have stayed here before and specifically toured one of the apartments 6 months ago in preparation for our visit. The Apartment shown although the same size as what we got, was newly and lavishly renovated and furnished. The mirror image apartment we were given, 108 & 109 was a relic from 30-40 or more years ago and very much the worse for wear. Although clean, comfortable and spacious enough with a wrap around balcony looking onto the mall below, with 2 beautiful Life size statues it definitely didn't match our expectations and was very much a disappointment. Room 405 for another couple in our group was in similar condition and smaller, with the same antiquated plumbing and INCREDIBLY noisy toilet flushing system which none of us had seen before. Be very careful booking your room as obviously some rooms are renovated and some aren't. We've come across this quite a few times in our travels through Hungary, a bit of "bait & switch"! Restaurant where we had buffet breakfasts and buffet dinners included in our package was a beautiful room and a pleasure to eat in. Staff were helpful and attentive and supplied drinks etc promptly. The buffets were OK but tended to be very heavy food, which is normal in Hungary, and generally extremely salty. In a few cases I had to leave the food as it was so over salted it...
Read moreThis is a beautiful grand old hotel first opened in 1915, the public areas display the beautiful and extravagant secessionist architecture of the age at its best – a kind of romantic, medieval imagination, especially in the dining room and the hall. Like almost everything else worth seeing in Hungary, the hotel was built in the glory days of the Austro-Hungarian empire, those 50 years from 1876 to 1918 when the country was still well governed and an amazing amount of development took place in just a few decades. The hotel is in an excellent position, right in the heart of the beautiful old city of Pecs. Unfortunately, the rooms are a slightly different category – generally adequate, but somewhat worn and in need of maintenance and refurbishment. Some rooms have air conditioning, most have a refrigerator, but there are recurring maintenance issues. In our room the TV was a very old vintage, and did not work, until we discovered that the aerial is broken. The remote control needed new batteries. The basin was somewhat (but not completely) blocked. The furniture was worn, but serviceable. The beds were good and we slept well. Overall, it is a reasonable 3* hotel, with fantastic public areas – well worth staying here just for the ambience and the atmosphere. The rooms on the higher floors are a bit more basic, and thos on the lower floors might be affected by noise when there...
