The hotel is centrally located, just a few houses down from a main street that connects laterally to the central square.
You can tell the hotel is new because it still has two names (Aranyhaó and Palatinus Boutique), even though the new name is used on most promotional materials. The new carpeting, smell, and furniture all contribute to the new vibe, without any of the side effects of unfinished work or paint leftovers.
Hungarians love to mix colors and styles, so this hotel is as "minimalist" as a hotel in Hungary can be. They don't use too many colors (but aren't limited to just three or four), and the styles match and mix well. Even things that might otherwise seem a bit kitschy or out of place (like the carpeting in the elevator or the raw concrete on the ceiling, even though no other elements invoke industrial design) do not detract from the overall well-balanced interior design.
A combination of wood, wall color, tiles, and lighting creates a wonderful blend of modern design. The perfect craftsmanship is visible in the bordering and connections between the carefully selected high-quality materials, exuding quiet luxury. The little things like soft close of doors (not only toilet seats), hidden cabinetry covered in matching wall tiles, fully dispersed indirect lighting and discreet furniture corner bumpers (so you don't hurt yourself during the night) - only accentuate how wonderfully well thought through the interior designers' plans were.
The same thing could be said of the tech - discreetly placed, there is an abundance of wall sockets to cater to all your needs. A quick WiFi scan of the QR code at reception gives you WiFi even before you check in. No paper instructions on the old fashion desks, no sticky scratched out menus to order breakfast in bed - the staff is there to help if you need them. If you don't feel like talking the QR codes are so unobtrusively placed you see them only if you need them. If you want to keep charging your devices or keep the temperature down while you are out and about - you don't need to leave a card in the unpopular slot by the door. No additional buttons need to be pressed to make sure a socket works - everything works out of the box, no frictions.
The staff is kind, positive, and available to help 24/7 in fluent English. The breakfast is very well put together and while it might appear a bit cautious with quantities, don't worry - they replenish continuously so it remains fresh.
The cleaning is impeccable and clearly visible when looking at typically challenging places like cabinets, behind doors, glass and tile surfaces, and the shower drain. You really feel comfortable putting your freshly washed feet on the floor.
The price is fair and well worth it - not only does the hotel check all the typical boxes, but it also hands down beats much pricier hotels by not being pretentious with lavish detailing that isn't needed. It strikes that perfect balance between not being cheap or expensive for what it offers, which is so rare to find these days.
The only downside, if I had to find any, was the typically glacial hotel WiFi speeds. I came for a private day trip, uninterested in the stability of my Internet connection so it never actually messed with my phone usage of the Internet. Had I been on a business trip or worked remotely, the odds are I would have experienced the same issues all other hotels impose on their guests. That said, if you use mobile EU roaming or buy a local SIM, the hotel has excellent 5G signal, so you could easily bridge that issue in case you do end in a room further away from the scarcely placed routers.
If you want to relax, visit Pécs, have a wonderful time in a modern environment, this is the best choice you could make. Let's see how it stands the test of time in terms of both quality and price. I will definitely be...

I recently stayed at Platinus Hotel, and I must say, it was a very pleasant experience overall. The service provided by the staff was exceptional—they truly went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was comfortable. From the moment I checked in, I felt genuinely welcomed, and any requests I had were handled promptly and with a smile.
The location of the hotel is also a strong point, making it easy to access nearby attractions and amenities. Whether you’re in town for business or leisure, you’ll find it convenient to get around from here.
One pleasant surprise was the quality of the food. Despite not being a 5-star hotel, Platinus offered dishes that could rival some of the best restaurants in town. The variety and taste exceeded my expectations, and it’s clear that the kitchen staff take great pride in their work.
However, there are a few areas where the hotel could improve. The beds, while adequate, are a bit smaller than what I would have preferred. Additionally, I noticed a few flies in the hotel during my stay, which detracted from the otherwise clean and well-maintained environment.
In summary, Platinus Hotel has a lot of potential. The excellent service, prime location, and surprisingly good food make it a great option for travelers. However, keep in mind the minor issues I mentioned. With a few improvements, this hotel could become a top choice...
Read moreIt is said to be one of the country's oldest hotels but it still has to live up to its two star level. The rooms are quiet basic with some 30-40+ years old furniture and without air conditioning and elevator. The airco would be quite useful as Pécs is one of Hungary's hottest cities and during my stay it was quite humid too. Besides the window the only possibility to get some fresh air is through the small fan located on the table or through window that you may open.||||The bathroom would require some renovation as well. I was quite surprised to see marks made with duck tape to show me where I have to turn the lights on in the bathroom or where to pull the handle to empty the toilet.||||There's cold breakfast, which is ismple but various.||||The greatest advantage of the hotel is its location, just off the main square in Pécs, though it also means that if you come by car, you should contact the hotel about the parking possibilities in the...
