I had a super terrible experience during my last visit to Udupi. Given all the ratings and all, I had booked this hotel on Make My Trip, payment was done. I arrived at the hotel in the morning hours. No one was there at the desk. After some 15 minutes receptionist came. We requested for early checkin, we were ready to pay the extra amount, he said the rooms you have booked, that type isn't available. We requested if they have some guest washroom which we could have used to freshen up and came back later when rooms were available for check in. He flat out denied that as well! I was travelling with my family btw, not even slightest of the courtesy was shown. No where to go now, I asked him if there is some other room available, to which he said yes. I asked for the price, we were quoted 3024 per day. To my amusement, the same guy gave the same room to other people who booked the room then and there for 2K something. I couldn't understand this logic. Anyhow, I agreed to 3024 and requested to pay the balance amount (remember I had already booked this place by paying some amount online?) in cash and do the check in. But surprise surprise, sir didn't want to balance, he wanted me to cancel the other booking and pay the entire amount of 3024 separately. For sure he was least bothered by what will happen to the booking amount which I had already paid and neither was he in a mood to give us a washroom for 10 minutes use. Helpless, at this point, I called MMT, the MMT support staff suggested to get a written confirmation from the hotel that they are okay to refund the amount in event of cancellation, I said yes! MMT dropped the email, this guy said he responded with Approved for agreement to refund for cancellation. Well he was lying, he said this for 4-5 times, next time, I took his phone and there was nothing in the sent box! Now, he replied "okay" to the MMT email, cancellation happened for the refund amount. I later went to another hotel nearby, got a decent room with immediate checking for almost 1900 INR a night.
The hotel staff lack even a basic civil sense and courtesy, avoid these guys at any cost. Given the fact that most of the buses to Udupi come early morning, you'll end up with a booking which won't let you do early check in even if you are ready to pay. ✈️ Rude Reception after Travel Tribulation: Person B, after a stressful flight delay, was met with hostility by the hotel manager. No reservation? This was the first slap in the face after paying in full!
💼 Manager Kusuma: Queen of Rudeness: Confrontation with the manager was like dealing with a brick wall. Her arrogance and lack of basic customer service skills were shockingly prominent.
👵 Elderly Guests? More Like Invisible Guests! Our 80-year-old guests were treated worse than stray animals. Zero compassion, zero empathy!
📞 Makemytrip's Customer 'Dis-service': Attempting to resolve the issue with Makemytrip was like talking to a wall. Abrupt call terminations and absurd, fabricated policies were their go-to strategy.
💸 Financial Black Hole: They happily took our money but failed to secure a reservation. Their refund offer? A joke in poor taste.
🐺 Makemytrip: A Deceptive Facade: Once thought to be reliable, they've proven to be nothing but a sham, especially towards their high-spending MMTblack customers. If they treat us like this, I shudder to think of their treatment towards others.
🏨 Hotel Swadesh Heritage: Where Hospitality Goes to Die: If your day is going too well and you need a dose of misery, this is your destination. Manager Kusuma seemed to think she was doing us a favor by allowing us to breathe the same air.
🌟 Zero Stars Would Be Too Generous: They don't even deserve the ground they walk on, let alone a star rating.
📌 Conclusion: A Circus of Misery: Both Makemytrip and Hotel Swadesh Heritage are in cahoots in a con game where the customer is the punchline. Avoid these charlatans like the plague.

Charged us extra money for early check-in even though we were staying for four days. Room was musty when we checked in. It needed to be aired out. The size of the room, bed and cupboard is fine. The ventilation window of the bathroom is in the corridor of the hotel. Awkward! They only seem worried about money. They didn't offer a good discount even when we extended our stay by three additional days. But we were offered a late check-out. That was a pleasant surprise. No laundry service is available. We had to opt for a third-party service from the area. The non-veg food we ordered to the room was decently prepared. But they wanted us to pay for it immediately even though we told them that all over the world hotels settle all room bills at check-out. Then, after payment, they were hesitant to give us the bill paid receipt. We had to remind them about it. Strange! The night shift staff (male) are a bit too inquisitive and pesky. They're not up to par with hotel management standards. Their behavior is weird. They knew we were staying in the room at the end of the corridor but they would always keep the corridor lights switched off for some reason. The front desk executives are strictly okay at their job. The doorman is the best at people management. He makes for a very good concierge. He's extremely helpful! We spotted a big cockroach occasionally. Bathrooms are decent and running hot water was available. The view wasn't great but you get a lot of lovely sunshine. The windows were irritating to open and close because of the grills. The TV and remote had seen better days. The bed was quite uncomfortable because it had metal springs that were pretty tough. Sheets and pillows were clean enough.
