Usually I prefer privacy when resting but this time I decided to stay in a hostel and shared room with strangers. Did my research and read the reviews before booking the room. Surprisingly, I loved staying in Konko and made beautiful memories.
It's located in the center of Jakarta, near by train stations, such as Gondangdia, Gambir, and Senen. Also it is very close to tourism destinations (National Gallery, National Monument, and National Museum). Very strategic place, just like what I needed. Missing a train isn't funny, right?
I booked a room in a female-only dorm and stayed there for several nights with few others. The room was small, understandable, but it has shower room inside. Clean room, clean shower, although there was funny smell (came from the drain or pipe maybe). The soap, I love it, has nice smell. There was a locker for each guest but you need to bring your own lock or rent it from them. I think the locker lock should include as the facility.
They provide mineral water to refill your tumbler. You can hang around in the relax room to read books or play the Playstation (there is extra charge to play cmiiw). I went to the pantry as well but not sure it was functional because there were some cardboards and looked like a storage area. However, these areas have such a nice vibe.
The receptionists were nice and one recommended me a good place for dinner. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to go there. I asked another receptionist about the nearest Mandiri ATM but she didn't have the answer. Well yeah, I can Google the place but I prefer to talk to actual people than asking the robot. But pretty sure she will learn from this and improve her knowledge to help many more people.
Let me say it again, I enjoyed staying here and met some strangers, then ended up recommending places in Jogja to visit to this girl in the dorm. The hostel pursued this concept that encourages you to interact with other guests. Imagine how many friendships and cultural exchanges were made there.
Konko Hostel, I might come...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of staying at Konko hotel that truly surpassed our expectation. The modern decor throughout the facility created a stylish and inviting atmosphere, making our stay both comfortable and enjoyable. The building itself and the room, though a bit small and squeezy, was surprisingly well-appointed with contemporary furnishings, contributing to an overall positive experience.
One of the standout features was the accommodation's convenient location near the Gambir train station, providing easy access to our next location, Bandung and making it an excellent choice for travelers that are taking the train. The strategic positioning added a significant layer of convenience to my stay and was actually one of the main reason for choosing this hostel.
The staff's proficiency in English was another commendable aspect, ensuring effective communication and a smooth experience.
The hostel's commitment to cleanliness, while fair, didn't overshadow the positive aspects. The bedsheets and towels were a bit dirty but overall fair. Additionally, the inclusion of complete toiletries in the bathroom was a thoughtful touch. They provided hairdryer which most hostel did not.
Moreover, the 24-hour check-in service was a welcomed convenience, accommodating varying arrival times and contributing to the flexibility of the stay. However, it's essential to note that the parking area, although providing ample spaces, appeared a bit shady at night with people flocking the gate smoking. Despite this, the availability of parking spaces alleviated any concerns about finding a spot for any vehicles.
In conclusion, Konko Hostel offers a well-rounded experience with its modern decor, convenient location near a train station, English-speaking staff, and thoughtful amenities like complete toiletries. While the rooms may be on the smaller side and the parking area slightly questionable, the positive aspects far outweigh the downsides, making it a commendable choice for those seeking a comfortable and...

Good:
Location near Gambir train station (10 minutes walk almost), close to some central places to visit while in Jakarta Staff working always polite, available and friendly with guests Big space to lock your belongings, brings your padlock if have (if have suitcases) will need to leave inside the room Privacy curtain (does not cover all space but it does the job) Toilets/Showers most of times clean and with toiletries available (hand soap, body wash, shampoo) Area to chill and work on the top floor There’s a bar for socialising at night Good wifi Free coffee and tea during all day available Supermarkets and street food markets nearby Shoes container to put it outside the room
Negative/ to improve: For me these are some feedback, not too much negative as the hostel does a decent job:
Entrance is through a restaurant on ground floor, door is locked by 10 or 11 in the evening for security (good thing) but than the main gate is also close (i do not know if there’s a ringbell to call near the gate, but i had to use my mobile phone, what if someone has battery dead or no internet?) Rooms are a bit small for many people to stay inside, to leave your luggages inside but it’s manageable Location is great but can be noisy because of the trains running all the times till midnight (i think they have earplugs available) Rules should be put more in evidence in common areas / inside the rooms as many guests can be forgetful Reception and luggage area all one space, no actual storage to put it inside but there are cameras everywhere you are safe Payment by card has extra fee (not sure if is mention on the website) 200k deposit payable only by cash or leaving your national identity card (i understand many places have this rule) but before to give it back, at least, pretend to check that all is good with the bed...
