We travel extensively, and Lloyd’s Inn Bali is hands down one of the Worst Places we have ever stayed. Frankly, we wouldn’t stay here even if they paid us.
Please See The Actual Current Photos Attached.
Let’s get this straight from the start: the online photos are incredibly misleading. Most images you’ll see online — including on TripAdvisor, their website etc. are from around 2019. They do not reflect the current condition of the hotel, which is rundown, dirty, and very poorly maintained. Please see the real photos we took to understand what you're actually walking into.
Arrival and Entrance (Red Flag #1) The approach to the hotel is via a broken, narrow road barely fit for a car to pass through. Our taxi driver had trouble navigating the tight bend into the street — it's a cramped, potholed lane that immediately set the tone for what was to come.
Entry & Reception (Red Flag #2) The front entrance is chipped and stained, with cracked tiles and scuffed walls trying to be hidden behind random picture frames and plants. The reception is a tired desk on the side, looking more like a forgotten office corner than a welcoming front. It felt neglected and dirty, with a worn-out sofa that could barely fit three to Four people.
Lobby Garden Seating This was probably the only area that felt semi-decent at first glance, but on closer inspection, it too was dusty and old. Furniture looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly in years. The hanging pod seats were worn and stained.
Dining/Bar Area (Red Flag #3) We didn’t dare eat here. The dining/bar area was dim, depressing, and completely uninviting. Furniture was chipped and filthy, and the bar looked sleazy rather than stylish. The breakfast served in this same area looked unappetizing — perhaps the unclean surroundings made it look that way.
Lifts and Corridors The lift creaked when opening/closing or moving, and the paint job inside looked like a school project gone wrong. Corridors were lifeless, cold white, and felt more like a prison than a hotel. Depressing, dark, and completely neglected.
The Room — A Full-Blown Disaster with Black Mold The room was the final nail in the coffin. As soon as we opened the door, a wave of damp, moldy, rotting odor hit us. The doormat was filthy, as if someone had spilt food and never cleaned it up. there were no floor coverings, The raw concrete floor was cracked, cold, and stained — it genuinely looked like someone had vomited, wiped it once, and moved on. There was mold growing in the corners of the floor and walls.
We tried opening the sliding door to air the room out, but the smell outside (especially near the outdoor tub and shower) was even worse — like stale water and rot. The bathtub was stained, the wood was damp and moldy, and the walls surrounding it had visible moss and mildew growing.
There is no excuse for a hotel to be this badly run. We’re usually understanding when issues arise and happy to give constructive feedback in person, BUT this went far beyond fixable. It was unhygienic, uncomfortable, and completely unacceptable.
Final Thoughts: Do not be fooled by clever photography or slick branding. Lloyd’s Inn Bali is a far cry from the serene minimalist “retreat” it advertises itself to be. It is tired, dirty, and in Serious need of renovation and better management.

Location was very good. Close to the beach and close to the main shopping streets. For the price the alley to get to the hotel is more than fine.
Service. The workers were lovely, staff accommodated our needs and always a lovely smile and chat from the security or staff.
The rooms. Room 1, the sunset room. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a larger suite on the ground floor, when we entered the room there was a very strong smell of mould. Being a concrete structure and working in the building industry this building definitely suffers from damp although a fairly new building. The air conditioning units also need a desperate sanitisation and filter replacement. The room was a nice size with a small outdoor area and outdoor tub. The bathroom was a nice size and all the finishes seemed of a fairly good standard for the price of the room. We went away and left the aircon going to see if it would air out the room and it didn’t. It was worse. I could taste the mould after about 30minutes of being in the room.
Room 2. The apartment suite. I went to the desk to ask if we could change to another room and they were very nice about finding one. Generously they upgraded the room without request to what looked like an apartment suit which was a similar size but with an added space of a galley style lounge room couch and tv. This room was also on the ground floor and suffered the exact same damp/mould issue. It was so strong we walked straight out and asked to try another room higher up. I would avoid all ground floor rooms until they are waterproofed or sanitised.
Room 3. The room we booked. A standard queen/double room. This room was on the 3rd floor. Straight away the mould smell was gone. The room was exactly what was pictured. A bed, shower and tiny balcony with a slither of light. And no mould. It was acceptable for the price but still had a small smell. As others have also mentioned in the bathroom there is an eggy/smell when using the water. I would say there is a relief valve on the side of the building somewhere. Not very nice but only smells when using the shower. As others have also mentioned the hallways echo any sounds of people badly, and the doors do not seal properly so you can see light always coming through.
Category 4 Overall feel. a bit disappointed as the architecture is lovely, the staff are lovely and the amenities are lovely such as the pool, spa and dinning.
But
Would most likely spring the extra 100$ and go to a bigger chain hotel for the refinement of a non lumpy bed, nice smelling room and less issues in general with the...
Read moreStayed here for 4 nights. Initially booked the basic room but upon arrival, I was given an upgrade to a larger room which sounded pleasing at first.
Once we entered the room, we realised what a nightmare it was, the room smelt of mould so we aired the room and decided to take a shower BUT once we switched on the water in the showers, the entire toilet smelt like sewage water which was horrifying. We tried to live with it assuming that it was cause it was cheap. But after awhile we just could not sit with it and asked for a room change.
We got another room on the ground floor (room 018, the first one was 010 i think) there was no mould smell but we test the shower and there was still the sewage smell, the person who brought us to the room said they are working on it and are actually aware of the smell (seems like it’s an issue with all hotels near the beach). As they seemed sincere, we decided to accept the room despite it not being completely satisfactory.
Another point to note would be that there are plenty of mosquitos in the toilet as it is outdoors so we kept our toilet doors closed most of the time but during the make up of the room I believe some doors are left open as when we returned there were always mosquitos in the room. There were andes mosquitos as well but none of us caught any illnesses from the mosquitos despite being bitten so I am assuming they do not carry any diseases.
The towels and sheets have plenty of stains and are slight grey. So if it’s a big issue for you, I suggest to book somewhere else. The blanket was lumpy with random cotton chunks bundled up at certain areas. I understand that the sewage is an issue but I am sure clean sheets and proper blankets is an issue the property can fix. Additionally the breeding of mosquitos should be fixed as well as it could pose as a danger to the guests.
There were so many issues with the property that I could not thoroughly enjoy my stay in bali, so I would 100% recommend people who take cleanliness into consideration to avoid this property at all costs. Just spend the extra money and make your holiday comfortable.
It was just extra disappointing knowing that I trusted the brand cause it was from Singapore, but this experience showed me how different managements probably made such a...
