The food, the bad and the ugly...
Not recommended for the old, disabled and people with poor mobility.
Location: The villa is located some 3km off the main road, inside very narrow alleys. You have to navigate three steep and narrow ramps that take some patience, guts and driving ability to negotiate. Not friendly for beginner drivers and large vehicles (including the taxi we arrived in). It is not overlooking a field either. There is no lift within the property.
Food: The worst breakfast we had in Bali. The in-house restaurant, Garlic Butter, is desolate and for good reason. Our breakfast was a sad mix of limp croissants, terrible coffee and mie goreng that gave me diarrhoea and a fever
Rooms: The rooms look aesthetically pleasing but the lighting is horrendously dim. The plumbing delivers a gentle drip to the shower, tub and tap. Takes 1 hour (seriously!) for the tub to fill halfway. Despite our complaint, they didn't and couldn't do anything to fix this. Moreover, the top of the wardrobe looks like it had never been cleaned. Being 6'1, I was blasted with a view of a wide variety of dust, dead insects and unknown black specks. It bothered me for the rest of my stay there. I wonder if the bed and linens were given the same treatment.
Service: The receptionists were polite but unable to guide or recommend any attractions to us beyond directing us to the city center. They didn't even know the nearest spot to fill petrol. When we asked for an extension of the room, they couldn't search their own inventory on their computers for available rooms and asked us to check booking.com.
Laundry was prompt and well-done.
The villa is within walking distance of the Heron Village, which is...
Read moreFriendliness: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (∞/5)They went above and beyond — honestly, I’d introduce my younger brother to them for a blind date, that’s how friendly, kind, and wonderful they were! On our last day, we had to leave at 3 AM for a Mount Batur tour and couldn’t have breakfast, but they prepared sandwiches for us to take. Truly heartwarming.Cleanliness: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)A bit mixed here. I used my shower filter for two days and it stayed crystal clear, which says a lot about the water quality. There were some insects, but I actually see that as proof they don’t overuse pesticides, so in a way, it felt cleaner and more natural. However, those who dislike bugs might find it a bit challenging.Location/Transportation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)You’ll rely on Grab 100% — walking distance is only about 10 meters around the property. The surrounding roads can be tricky. One local Grab driver even said it was the “most difficult driving ever.” That said, we used Grab six times and got everywhere just fine.Interior & Ambience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)Absolutely stunning. Beautifully arranged flowers and thoughtful landscaping everywhere. My dream canopy “princess bed” was here, and the forest-view balcony was magical. Every corner felt like a scene from a fairytale.Overall Experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)This was a truly special stay. I hope more people can experience it, and I would love to come back again.
Read moreWe had booked the room for 3 days at The compass rose ubud. It was a room with a bathtub along with morning breakfast. It was a good staff, but few stuffs were not accepted from my point of view were: The flooring was made of wooden, which made a lot of noise while walking, The room space was a little less, as it was feeling like the room was just occupied by the bed itself and nothing else. There was a cupboard on which the television was placed, one side of the door of this cupboard was continuously opening again and again, even after closing for 10 times. As we walked around the bed,the door used to instantly open up again! It was very disturbing because of which we couldn't even walk around in the minimum space! The location is very difficult to find and found the hotel very much in a village area,it felt like a jungle. There was no good view from the balcony as well, it was just full of trees exactly tpunching our room balcony! No open space to have a sight seeing! Overall, the staff was friendly and ready to help. They booked us a bike really quick. Also, they provided us with vegetarian breakfast as we wanted, and that was up to the mark ( not really delicious). The farewell was really good and we were gifted with a pack of coffee (as mentioned of a gift while booking )and 2 water bottles for our journey...
