The critical factor was not the brown bathroom nor the tan toilet paper, though the electrical socket hanging out of the wall over the sink could have doomed someone. Nor was the awful truth about this place failing to get the room we'd been promised and paid extra money for. Though that was hugely disappointing the insurmountable problem was the noise within the hotel. After 1 night we moved due to the cacophony indoors that made the busy street outside seem as calm as a picnic. The great problem with Elios Rooms, a 1st floor apartment above a crossroads thoroughfare, is that the rooms are not off a quiet corridor, they are located directly off the kitchen area, directly off the reception room, and off communal areas which means that unless you are stone deaf you'll need some seriously good ear plugs to survive being awoken early in the morning as chairs are scraped over floors, as sleepy chatter chunters into cappuccini made frothy below a coffee steamer that hisses consciousness into even the deepest sleepers. As phones ring and doors slam all around your room, even with wax ear plugs pushed deeply, you will be wakened, as we were, time after time, by cups and saucers, plates, chatter, ring ring, and doors, if not the dog. One night was enough! We had to move. Getting a forced smile apology for the rooms mix-up and not getting the promised quiet room which we paid extra for added to the bad feeling which rose biliously from the depths. Being told we were in the wrong and we had never been given an agreement for a quiet room added to the anxiety. Thus riled we felt obliged to produce the Email sent to us from the owner which proved we had, in fact, been promised said quiet room. That wasted time and caused us stress. Upon showing the manageress the Email the resident dog went berserk and barked itself into a lather, so we decided to just slip away with a cancellation (1 night penalty) and then we were able to enjoy 5 great nights just around the corner at a fine hotel - well worth the...
Read moreI think Elios is good value and a great location. It's clean and we thought the design....the creation of the en suite was quite ingenious it's a little box effectively with the room and what we liked was that it was fitted in so as not to spoil the nice ceiling. The room was a good size and the bed was perfectly comfortable. There was an aircon unit which I really appreciated as I am obsessed with not having mosquitos come in but also don't like a bedroom with is too hot. There were still mozzies around I got bites to prove it but I didn't have them buzzing around in the night! We had a little balcony. As it's so centrally located there was a lot of traffic and noise from that but you can't have it both ways can you? And some sound from other guests. One review went on and on about noise well if you want quiet get an apartment to yourself out of the city. We were just minutes from the Duomo and the bus station at Piazza Borsellino. It was great! The building itself felt very secure so I felt safe. There was a safe in our room....you have to ask for a key. Marika was nice but my favourite was Cinzia who made our breakfast she was absolutely lovely she makes your coffee she will make you scrambled eggs it felt very personal and I talked to her quite a bit in my halting Italian. Very...
Read moreWe flew in on a military flight and landed around 10 PM. We found this place online upon landing at our first stop around 7. It had good reviews so we took a chance. What a delight! Turned out it was central to much of what we wanted to do and had great food in the area! The hostess was so kind and warm. Even though it was very late when we arrived, they showed us around the room and the building. She was attentive at breakfast despite our language barrier! The room was lovely and comfortable. ||If I can give one tip: Get WHATS APP. As we booked so late, and did it via phone, we missed the confirmation email giving entry directions via What's APP. I felt very horrible waking these kind people up. I had only heard of this App two weeks prior. The sent the codes to What's App....
