I had called a week before to reserve a table at Al Vicolo for 9pm. Our flight was due to arrive in Catania in time for us to get to the Airbnb and still make it to the restaurant in time. Everything took longer than expected and we were running late, so I called Al Vicolo to explain. The manager reassured me that he would save a table for us and take care of us when we arrived. We finally arrived an hour later than agreed. The manager remembered my name and took us straight to the table he had saved for us, just as promised. We were blown away by this level of personalised service! This was my very first experience in Sicily and it set the tone for the entire trip. We ordered pizza and received the biggest pizza I have ever seen - and quite possibly the most delicious. There was no way we could finish the pizzas, but that wasn't a problem. "Eat what you can and we'll box the rest for you to take with you", the manager told us. We didn't have time to go back to Al Vicolo during our short trip, but we will put that right the next time we visit Catania, which will definitely be soon. I can highly recommend Al Vicolo. Delicious pizza, great vibe, and truly outstanding service 😁 Grazie mille!

Food Quality: starting from the appetizers and all the way to the amount of different pizzas to order, all food was delicious and great quality with fresh ingredients. Portions: amazing portions. The plates are very plentiful. The board with charcuterie and cheeses was very bountiful. Pizzas are nice and big and full of ingredients. Drinks: a good selection of cocktails and drinks to chose from. Also very well made. Price: $$ - we had a bug table and split a lot of things to try everything, but seemed like a very decent price for everything we ate. Service: as we were such a big table this is very difficult to comment on, but even though they had misplaced our reservation they still managed to arrange something for such a big group that we were. And after that, very helpful and friendly with our orders. Atmosphere: very big restaurant. Amazing terrace outside on the street side and also a beautiful little garde terrace inside. Also works very well for events. Highlights: the terrace is amazing, and also the food was delicious. Things to improve: considering that our reservation got lost, that would have been something to improve. Payment Method: CC, cash

The food is great - I ordered a "scrocchiarella," similar to pizza but crunchier and easier to digest. The waiter informed me that there was the possibility to combine two varieties, so I chose Scrocchia #1 (tomato sauce, mozzarella fior di latte, basil, and extra virgin olive oil) and Scrocchia Ripiena #7 (buffalo mozzarella, mozzarella fior di latte, grilled ham, olives, sun-dried tomato capuliato, Grana Padano flakes, oregano, chilli pepper, and extra virgin olive oil). Both were delicious, but the final bill of €33 for two halves (please see photo) seemed excessive, especially since one half was priced at €25 and the other at €33. Please note that there was no prior indication that I would be charged for the more expensive option. The service, unfortunately, was the most disappointing aspect of my experience. My order was delayed by 50 minutes due to an issue (they mentioned the order didn't go through), and there was no apology or compensatory offer from the staff. Additionally, although my boyfriend and I ordered our drinks at the same time, they were delivered at different times. The restaurant’s setting is charming, located on a cobblestone street with outdoor seating in front of a lovely cocktail bar that they seem to collaborate with. However, the experience was somewhat marred by intermittent music issues, likely due to a problem with the sound system. I assume this was an isolated incident and that the sound system usually works fine. Overall, while the food was good, the service and pricing left much to be desired. I had high expectations based on positive reviews but was ultimately disappointed. For those visiting Catania, I would recommend exploring other pizza options or, if you are keen to try Il Vicolo, just stick to a regular pizza, which seems to be well-reviewed.

First time in Italy I experienced ethnic discrimination. We had booked table at 20:30. We received table around 20:40. Other Italian guests and Italian people from the street received the table before us, even without booked table. Front manager assigned to us on the middle walking way table, inside crowd, waiters rush and busy staff. I felt like on railways station. We asked for change the table, so after 15 min we received table at the end of the street, very close to Agatha cafeteria. We ordered bruschetta, salso salad (we changed ingredients), two pizza’s, aperol spritz and vino rosso. We received bruschetta very fast, around 10 minutes. Afterwards it passed 60 minutes, when I asked front manager where is our salad and pizza. He apologised, and we received salad like this on the picture. I’m not cooker in this restaurant. First time in life I has been treated like that, and I have opportunities to travel around the world. When next 30 minutes passed and we still didn’t receive the pizza, we just walk away. Italian people which came to the place after us, eat even desserts in the same period when we eat only bruschetta. 2 hours waiting and still do not get pizza was enough for us. Terrible behaviour of the waiter and front manager. Racist restaurant, from Mussolini era.

This is probably one of the best pizzas that I have tried in Italy like all of Italy. Something else that I need to add is that the pizza are actually huge. I do love to eat, however one pizza is too much for me sometimes. They have a wide variety of different pictures for everybody's taste. A little bit concerning is the wide variety of menu items that they are offering. However, when you walk to the place you see two different restaurants which actually operate as one. So maybe this is the reason why the menu has everything from pizza to burgers. However, the place could work a little bit more on service because the waiters are really scattered and we were served by three or four different people, one of the nights that we visited. The prices are very reasonable and I would say that the pizza are really amazing. We had both open and calzone Pizza. One of the days we had the pistachio tiramisu which was a little bit dry to my taste. But nevertheless, the balance of the flavors was amazing. It was not too heavy. Not too sweet. It was just perfect.

We had a fantastic evening meal here on Christmas Day. I went with my partner, her mother, and my mother. We all ordered a pizza each, and they were HUGE! I had the green pesto, pistachio, and bacon pizza... AMAZING! I ate every single slice and was even able to eat a slice of my mother's pizza! My partner is from Catania, and she has never had pizza there before. She told me that it was up there as one of the very best pizzas she has ever had! She is not a big eater... but she ate the entire pizza! It is a bit on the expensive side for pizza in Catania. However, with the size and quality you get... it was worth every penny! They have plenty of beer on tap as well, which was a bonus for me. Seriously, if you want to try the best pizza in Catania, you MUST visit this restaurant. To play it safe, make sure you pre-book as it is a very popular restaurant. Thank you for providing us with an amazing meal on Christmas Day. We will certainly be coming again when we visit Catania next time!
