Via Sant'Egidio 19 50122 Florence Italy
Opera 19 Luxury Apartments
We stayed four nights at this apartment very close to the Duomo.
First let’s talk about all the positives: Laura (the lady who checked us in) was extremely responsive with any questions we had. She was waiting for our arrival and was extremely informative about the apartment and gave lots of great suggestions for sites to see and places to eat.
The apartment was very nice. Clean and modern. Air conditioning was in each living space. There were two bedrooms (a master with en-suite) and a second room which had two beds. There were two full bathrooms, a kitchen, small refrigerator and washer/dryer and a living room with a couch which converts to a bed.
The kitchen came complete with dishes and cooking utensils. There was bedding and extra towels. Laundry soap and dishwasher soap was provided.
The negatives: The things to be aware of is Via Sant'Egidio (the apartment’s street) is very busy, especially in the mornings. You can hear all the traffic as it goes by. If you’re an early riser, this isn’t an issue. However if you are not an early riser, this may not be be an ideal situation. The apartment is nice, but certainly is not soundproof from outside sounds. While we never heard a neighbor, we definitely heard all the sounds from outside such as late night yelling of people on the street.
Another thing to be aware is a hospital is 1/2 a block away and this street is utilized by ALL the ambulances. The bad part is they don’t shut of their sirens until just after passing the apartment’s windows. Not too much of an issue during the day, but several times a night each night can be a little much for some. The other thing to know is there are shops below the apartment. This can be Very convenient if you want some water or other small items. However one of the businesses is a small bar that does some business until around 1 a.m. The music and laughing can be heard in the apartment. Good thing this isn’t a night club, but more like a local watering hole that is small and not large at all. Which has a charm, but one should be ready for the charm. Our last night had loud music and loud people until 1 a.m. It was impossible to sleep until it closed.
Also be prepared you are expected to take out your garbage at the end of your stay. The rubbish bins are at the end of the block. A few minutes walk away. Italy is very into recycling, so your trash is divided between plastics, paper, food waste, and regular trash. My kids easily handled this task.
Carlo is the owner of the apartment and met us promptly at our predesignated checkout time. He was very affable and charming. Overall the rental process was very easy and quite pleasant.
My summary: Very clean, nice place to stay in the city center, but does have quite a bit of ambient street noise you should...
Read moreWe have stayed in this lovely apartment on several visits to Florence -- a wonderful, centrally located, clean, well-decorated and comfortable apartment! The two bathrooms are a great feature and both are meticulously clean and modern. The beds are comfortable with excellent linens. The check-in process is extremely efficient and easy; Carlo is a superb host. The location is fantastic, central to everything; just minutes from the Duomo and wonderful local neighborhood dining spots (and grocery markets too). It is especially safe too and the hospital is close by (unfortunately there is ambulance noise frequently but they try not use sirens ate at night). For light sleepers, be aware that there is street noise at times because you are in center city and not in a Tuscan villa. Go out at night and enjoy a late dinner followed by drinks at a rooftop bar overlooking the city! We immensely enjoyed our stays at this apartment and highly recommend this apartment - and look forward...
