Antico Albergo del Sole al Pantheon — Hotel in Rome

My families stay at the Sole Al Pantheon Hotel was one of the most disappointing experiences we have ever encountered. After we had first checked into the hotel and visited our five rooms, we were shocked at the conditions considering the hotel was four stars. Here's a list of every issue we came across during our stay. In our first room, there was an appalling odor throughout the room plus water stains on the wall and damp carpet. When we went down to the front desk to ask for a replacement, they resisted on giving us a new room until we told them that the room was "absolutely unacceptable". In our second room, the chair had stains and when you would turn on the shower, black fuzz would fall from the vent onto the person that was showering. Two of our rooms had no air conditioning whatsoever. The lowest temperature that they would reach would be 25 degrees celsius/ 77 degrees fahrenheit. One of the safes was dysfunctional and wouldn't unlock until we called the bellhop with the override key There was great disparity between the quality of rooms The door locks of the rooms would stick and wouldn't open until you shoved it. The outdoor dining room was extremely unpleasant when the weather was humid and/or hot. There was no bar service to request ice from. When the bar was tended, it was by the bellhop. The only elevator in the entire hotel was slow and was the size of a phone booth. The afternoon concierge acted as if our family was an inconvenience. Our rooms were not cleaned very thoroughly We must admire the bellhop considering that he was in charge of almost every job (repairs, elevator, luggage, room...

We really loved this hotel. It’s been remodeled so the pictures here on Trip Advisor are outdated as of this writing. The hotel is located in an extremely busy, congested location in the piazza of the Pantheon. Despite the busy atmosphere outside, the inside of the hotel remained quiet and was very relaxing. Our room was lovely - perfectly clean and modern with a beautiful bathroom. The breakfast was really very nice. Fresh fruit, delicious pastry, yogurt, cheeses, meats, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon and freshly pressed juices. Of course cappuccino, espresso and cafe americano were offered and the coffee was really great. In the evening there was a bar setup in the breakfast room and it was really lovely. Michele was a wonderful bartender. We really enjoyed talking with him. Lastly, but certainly not least, the staff here is exceptional. Extremely helpful, very attentive and very friendly. The ladies who served breakfast were lovely and really made us feel welcome. Dante was very helpful and we enjoyed talking with him also. Every member of the staff was friendly and really wanted their guests to have a good experiences. Many great things to see and do within walking distance. VERY VERY BAD ! Stay away from this hotel ! It is a scam. First of all, the hotel is not even near 4* as advertised. It is very old and poor inside. May be 3* maximum. But the worst thing is that they lie to the clients. The scheme they are using they call «annex» Here is how it works: They let you book the «annex» room. Who knows what annex means? A second building, an addition to the main building? Sure. But it should be the same hotel, right? A  four star hotel - right? Instead, the receptionist takes us across the square, to an old residential (!) building 100 meters from the hotel. Please see the attached pics. Old, dirty residential building. With private apartments. Period. And the manager says: you are going to live in an apartment (?!) Sorry, but we've booked a 4 star hotel - haven’t we? Then we enter the building - it's filthy, smelly entrance, dirty. There are trash cans (!) standing at the elevator. Full of garbage. Where are you taking us?!

Sure we refused to stay it this "hotel" and had to book another place immediately.
