BEWARE— there may be a crime ring operating out of this restaurant. I was on pilgrimage in Rome and had lunch here with a small group. Wait staff pushed an umbrella up against behind me to where I had no room to put a fanny pack or my backpack in front of me. I had to set it to my right on the ground. They had a charging station inside for phones on top of a cabinet. They created a distraction with the bill by overcharging. We noticed my backpack was gone. I had AirTags so I could track it. I ran after the thieves. My wife remained and let the owner know I was going after the thieves since I could track the backpack. He got nervous and appeared to make a phone call. In the meantime I walked into another restaurant about 3-4 a mile away where my backpack was showing on the tracker. I activated the “play sound” feature and sure I heard it. The one young guy picked up his phone playing dumb like it was his phone ringing. I was flustered and ran down a cab to go to police. They circled the block and dropped me off at the Carabinieri (local Italian police). Low and behold it was across the plaza from where my bag was tracked. I went in asking for the police to help me get my bag back. They showed me my bag and asked me if it was mine. Yes it was mine. They disappeared for an hour. I tracked my back as moving away from the police station. After an hour of sitting in the police station I had a local Italian translate for me to the officer on duty that I knew my bag wasn’t there showing them my screen with the blue dot about 2 miles away. They got nervous. In 10 minutes they brought me back, had no questions or explanations and had me sign for my bag. Which was missing my new air pods and other items but still had my new IPad. The next day I started to have identity theft and logins from Russia, USA and Europe. Piecing our experiences together the group felt like this was a very coordinated heist with the restaurant the thieves and the local police. I may be wrong but I don’t think I am. Please say a prayer for all involved that they repent and seek God’s...
Read moreI reserved this restaurant, after doing some research, while planning my dream trip to Rome. This place had good reviews, so I decided to make it my first dinner spot. I was traveling by myself, and wanted treat myself to something special. Unfortunately, it started out bad, and went down hill from there. After being seated, by a friendly guy, my waiter showed up. His greeting was gruff and unfriendly, as I asked him a couple questions. He suggested an appetizer, and I took his suggestion. After some time, he rushed my main course over, and ran off as quickly as possible. I ate my food, and the pasta was chewy, and the shrimp had barely any meat on them, although they were huge. The waiter NEVER returned to my table. I ran out of tea, halfway through my meal, never got a refill. I never got my appetizer, but since the waiter never returned, I was unable to tell him. After I finished my meal, the ignoring continued, I sat there for a long time, until, I final had to flag my waiter down to tell him that I’m ready to go, and that I never received my appetizer. He gave me a little pushback in this, and was attempting to figure out what happened, and bring it to me. I said, “No thank you, please take it off the check. I’m ready to pay and go. To my surprise. He grabbed my plate, walked away, and ignored my request to pay and leave. This went on for another for another 10 to 15 minutes, In what seemed to some kinda of posturing gesture of dominance. Lots of attitude from this guy, and a large amount of ego. It was outrageous! I finally had to get up from my chair, walk over to him, and say, “Can I pay now”. Then, and only then, did he begin to act human, and he was very apologetic, but it was disingenuous. He was attempting to prevent a bad review that he knew he worked so hard to achieve. As an added bonus, they canceled my “Open Table” reservation, so I wouldn’t write a review. Because of this, I didn’t get my Open Table...
Read moreI found Il Barroccio exceptionally Amazing, its the most relaxed Atmosphere, I walked past on my way to the Pantheon, chatted to the Manager Giovanni about the menu who was extremely helpfull, came back after visiting the Pantheon, Giovanni made us feel relaxed and placed us in a quiet air-conditioned area (as I requested). This restaurant boasts 2 floors of dinning area including directly outside in the cobbled lined ancient street, the atmosphere gives off old Roman culture, and is very welcoming. It has a number of VERY reasonably priced choices on the menu, everything was Exceptional to be honest. We had the bruschetta, a cabionara and spaghetti bolognaise with a beer. Giovanni was an exceptional host, always checking up on anything else we might need, very on point and proffessional with what he does. The restaurant is situated metres from the Pantheon, close to other restaurants bars shops and museums. All within walking distance. Very central very accommodating, easy to find, easy to feel relaxed and comfortable especially with the summer heat. Culturally Rome is exactly as it should be, restaurants do their best to accommodate all tourists, Il Barroccio did exactly that for us. Roman's are passionate and loud, but loving, kind and very accommodating and helpfull, and thats the part I love. ROMA is the language of Love, the food, the culture, the diversity and the old town are just a wonderful magic moment stuck in time, all with a modern twist. I was treated well and very much enjoyed every part of my experience in this unique restaurant. Giovanni made it extra special being attentive and knowledgeable. My return to Rome very soon will bring me back here because of the exceptional service, atmosphere, conversation and food. Loved Il BARROCCIO & I love...
